Multiple cats and litterbox question

We are getting two female (sisters) kittens ex-strays today.

I have never had multiple cats so I wanted to know do I need to set up 2 litter boxes or will they just need 1??

Congratulations! I have 2 kitties, one was a stray. I only use one litter box and scoop it in the morning and before I go to bed.Sometimes midday too,but they don't use it much then, too busy sleeping! Best wishes!

the general rule for cats is 1 box for each cat plus one. So we have 3 boxes and 2 cats. I have 1 upstairs in the kids' bathroom and two in DH's work/tool room in the basement. We put cat doors on all the doors in between with little flaps just in case a door gets shut and they need to go. HTH
