eye roll Vet mamas-- Pg Cat Questions...

Can a pg cat have Advantage? She's been outside, and has fleas. I need to let her in before she drops these kittens, but I *really* don't need fleas, especially with my 5 month old scooting on the floor.

And how big will she get before she gives birth? It's been many years since I was around a pg cat... We need to get her a box and a safe corner, right? I was going to pen her in a kitchen corner with the baby gate, but it gets to be 100 degrees in there.

Yes, it is off label use because it was never tested on pg cats...but we use it all the time for them. It's a lot safer over other toxic flea meds (did you hear about all those cats dying from using over the counter Hartz drops??Ugh......) and we use it a lot for pg cats and kittens too. The risk of anemia from fleas is greater, according to our vets, over using Advantage on a pg cat.

I'd use it.

Ohhh...and remember, she can and will get pg right after birth, nursing is NOT bc for cats at all. I have seen some get pg the day or so after birth! So keep her indoors til her babies are weaned and she can be spayed. (o:

Indoors, she will find her own area to give birth. They recommend you set her up with areas she can choose...like a dark corner, closet corner, etc. They prefer low light and no noise areas, so she may hide anyhow.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. We're still boxes & piles here, it's slow unpacking because we're still doing work... It's an adventure, right???

Advantage

We have kittens and i was just told if you give Advantage to a nursing mama cat, it will go into her milk and give the kittens protection from the fleas. have yet to try this on our kittens as they r 13 weeks and not nursing a lot.
BTW, anyone in the kingston ontario area that wants a kitten i have 5 waiting for homes

Ummmm...you must be reading my mind Deanna! I'm lonely without dh here and I've been thinking about replacing him with a kitten...lol Actually I was just telling Ticia yesterday to talk me out of it...I keep going to Craigslist and seeing listings for cute little kitties. This would give me some time to think on it!

You & the kids can have first pick! Think about it, seriously, I promised E that we'd keep one, but I'd love for them to go to people I know...

Well, Chloe is short haired, and we have no idea who the daddy/s is/are... She came with the house, & apparently got herself knocked up while we were still trying to make sure she didn't belong to anyone. Anyhow, I'll be sure to post as soon as she has them!

Aren't you further south? I'm near Riverside now, am I really that close to your dh's shop? I want another tat eventually, hopefully in the next year or so...
