Gentle guidance This board is not a debate board regarding spanking vs. non spanking. While we strongly believe that children need and thrive with guidance, we also believe that hitting is not the answer. If you have come here to discuss spanking and your reasons, please desist.

Gentle Potty Teaching info

I have a friend who told me she is going to start potty "training" her dd next week (who's not even 2 yet). I know this woman, and she's also been spanking since her dd was 1. So I was wondering if you knew of any sites that I could send her about gentle potty teaching (that it's something the child will do when she's ready, instead of forcing it on a child). She mentioned that she's worried about doing it b/c her dd is very strong-willed and she think it will be a battle.

Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Don't know of any sites, but here's an excellent book - Toilet Learning:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

My dd LOVED it when she was ready to potty at 2.5. My good friend borrowed it for her dd, and her dd loved it. It has parent info at the front, and a toddler book at the back. DD had me read it over and over and over. It's a gentle, wait until they're ready approach.

Good luck! I personally can't imagine trying to "train" a child who isn't ready. Talk about an exercise in futility.
