Gentle guidance This board is not a debate board regarding spanking vs. non spanking. While we strongly believe that children need and thrive with guidance, we also believe that hitting is not the answer. If you have come here to discuss spanking and your reasons, please desist.

Hitting?

My son is 17 months old. He has never really hit out of agression or meanness, but out of excitement. Daddy comming home ect., but he went to play with a little friend (he really has no playmates) who pushed, hit and pulled his hair. Since then he has been hitting me and his father.
Just tonight I was playing and tickleing him and when he stood up he slaped me accross the face. This has happend three times in the last two days different situations before each, but just kinda out of the blue. He is allways smiling and playing happy when it happens though.
We have decided not to hit back and usualy try to talk to him and explain why we don't hit. Or just put him of our laps with a sad look on our faces. But when I'm tired or it's late I find that I am hurt by it and often cry and then end up scolding him like I'm a two year old. Then I feel bad and he really hasen't learned anything.
Does anyone have any sugestions or help they can give.

Congratulations! You're pregnant! My toddler has started hitting lately and I don't know what else to do but grab her hand and explain to her that it hurts and hands are not for hitting.
