Well this whole thread really gives me a lot to think about it! We've never dripped with praise for our kids--I can't stand fake praise--but we do give it when it is well-deserved and I don't see us changing that. But we do occasionally suffer from the "If this then that" syndrome as we call it. I can't stand bribery and the few times it comes out of my mouth I feel like going into a hole! I really need to work on that.

Great article, too. My dh and I had a really long conversation about it and it really got us thinking. Thanks for posting about this book.

I haven't read it, but heard of it and the concept after we figured it out for ourselves. I recommended a really good book to my stepson that I thought he'd enjoy and his reply was, "what do I get if I read it?"

We never did rewards after that.
