How to read this GEDCOM file?

My mom has done a ton of research on her and my father's family. Even gone to where everyone is from, taken pictures etc. She has sent me a GEDCOM file--I would like to use some parts of it, but have no family tree software on my computer right now.

Are there free programs that I can use to open this file?

Thanks!
Meg

Do you have a Mac or a Windows machine? If you have a Mac there is no free software. I like www.download.com for software.
