So last night I was talking to my mom...

and we were talking about money. She said she has been without a paycheck for 6 weeks due to changing jobs, and they are dealing with some unexpected financial and legal stuff right now so she was saying any extra they have is going there. They are ok, but just a big difference with the extra bills and the no pay. Sooo I said i completely understand - that we are cutting way back and may cut back some more, because we're putting it all towards this adoption.

Mom (in disbelief): Really?
Me: um, yeah. It's not cheap!
Mom: Oh, I guess I didn't realize it was going to cost you guys a lot of money.
Me: Yeah, Mom, in the end it's going to be close to about $20,000.
Mom: WHAT?!?
Me: yes, Mom, it's NOT cheap.

Then I told her the upcoming expenses and what they were and how much. She was like, oh.

lol

I figure I will wait a few months to hit her up for some charitable donations.

My mother lives on a very fixed income. She gets her bills paid but you know sometimes the unexpected comes up. She was telling me, I think it was the second week into the month, that she had $100 to get her through the month and of course I asked if she had gotten the bills paid and she got a little irritated with me and said, "yes of course." I told her I just wanted to make sure in case I needed to help. She then says that she would be tight because of gas and needing to get groceries. Okay.... so I sent some money down to make sure that she has groceries. Then last week she was telling me that she went and bought my niece's three kids some shorts and tops "because they were on sale." I really had to bite my tongue. My mother was watching my niece's three kids, but she was not being paid. The kids are 4, 5 and 7. She has watched them the whole summer...without being paid.... and IF my niece sent food for the children, it was box of cereal and a jug of milk once a month. This just truely irks me, as my mother would cook for them and they would say, "Eww i dont like that, can I have XXX?" GRRRRRR...

Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread.

I know how expensive adoption can be. I tried it ONCE and was taken for a lot of money and the adoption agent would not help get it back, so I gave up on adoption.
