Adopting from Foster Care any experiences?

Hi Mamas,

Dh & I are in the process of getting licenced to foster & adopt. We have completed our class and are awaiting the second of four home visits. I would love to hear what your experiences have been with foster/adopting through the state.

TIA

we fostered/adopted and all I can really tell you is that it takes a long time. Our foster was freed for adoption at placement, yet it still took 1.5 years to finalize. The social worker was supposed to come check on him every month, but she came once during that 1.5 year period.

Good luck to you!

When we first became foster parents, we were not planning to adopt (that was not our goal...we just wanted to foster). Desi joined our family when he was 9 months old (4 years ago). We go to court in August for termination of both bio parents. IF termination is granted, we were told it would take 6-12 months for adoption to finalize. Yes, it can take awhile. But, I figure it will be worth it, ya' know?
