This past weekend I did my first overnight respite care. The 2 babies I respite for a 3 and 7 months. They are both meth babies. The kids and I had a marvelous time pulling out the pack and play and their old bassinet and setting them up in my room. We climbed in the attic and took some of their old infant toys and a few blankets out. They helped me clean the house so we wouldn't have to worry about it over the weekend. Then we waited, and waited and waited. When our friends came with the foster babies my kids went running outside to greet them. You would have thought they brought them Christmas presents, instead of babies! Fmom and Fdad had to leave pretty quick so I got instructions and off they went. Almost right away G started crying. She gets so easily overwhelmed by noise and excitement. I put her in the Frankencozy that I had just made espeically with her in mind and she still screamed. I guess she was hungry so I made her a fast bottle and she quieted right down. My kids got A ready for dinner and Marlie, who has suprisingly good aim for a 4 year old, fed her carrots.
Lucky, I had most of dinner prepeared ahead of time. Dh was there and got the rest done for me. By the time dinner was done, it was getting late so I got the girls ready for bed. We all snuggled up in the family room to watch a movie. A and G were hungry again, so 2 more bottles and another diaper change LOL. Both girls almost were alseep in my lap when a funny part came up on the movie, darn, 2 newly awakened babies. So I took them to my room and tried to get them to sleep. 1 hour later, I finally had 2 blissfully sleeping babies.
I think I was up 3 or 4 times in the night, I can't remember. Luckily they woke up on a perfect schedule LOL, one would wake on the hour, the other on the half hour to be fed. But by 7:30 am I realize that my body isn't used to waking up at night anymore, I'm tired.
By day 2 we've got this 2 baby thing figured out, although I feel lucky to get in a shower. Marlie helps me bathe the babies and the boy help feed them. More playing, more naps, more bottles. BTW, bottles a such a pain in the neck, it was awful to have to wake up and go make a bottle for a crying baby.
My mom comes over with my sisters and they all want to hold the girls. A loves to be held by anyone and everyone, G dosen't. Poor thing, she cried when anyone but me held her. I think she likes me finally
Off my mom and I got to Walmart. I ran into a lady who is a Court Appointed Child Advocate, she gives me good info to give to the Fmom. Both girls fall asleep in the store, good thing because it's hard to hold 2 babies and push a cart...
Saturday night my kids are sad to see the girls go. They want to know if we can keep them LOL. I get the house put back together and colapse on the sofa. 2 days with 2 infants was exhausting. Marlie spends the evening whining, I think she wants me to baby her LOL.
The next day she takes her nap in the pack and play (snort). We can't wait to have them over night again.
