Smile I think we are going to do foster care- a question or two

I am excited. We have been considering adding another child to our family, biologically, but haven't decided for sure.
However, dh and I have both agreed that we are definitely going to do foster care, and possibly adoption.
It will probably be 6 months to a year though. We want to wait to find out if his job will take him out of town (as in a move) or if we'll be staying here.

I just have one or two questions- will foster children need a room of their own to sleep in?? How does that work??

How about other things. We have the basic safety things- smoke detectors, fire extinguisher, medication and such out of the reach of children, but will we need to fence our back yard??

I know there are lots of other things I need to think of, but I want to be sure to have things in order, atleast the most obvious stuff before we start.

TIA

Alot of the requirements vary from state to state. For us, a child only required their own bed in a room with children of the same sex. We learned all the answers to the logistical questions while we attended our GPS classes (the 10-week training that was required for fostering/adopting in the state of Alabama).

Search this forum for foster care and you should find alot of similar threads of others asking alot of questions. They will be a good place to start with getting your questions answered. Also, call your local agency that places foster children and a social worker there should be able to help.
