Things are chugging along on the road to fostering!
We had our last class last week, dh got his first aid before me LOl I just finished my cpr/first aid. Now that we are buying a house with a pool dh will get a water safety cert., we get our livescan done this week (I lost my driver's license & had to wait til I got my new one to make the appt). We have our 2nd homestudy this week.
In 20 days we move to our new home. We will get our home inspection done then & then we will be good to go!!!! While we are waiting to be licensed we will take a little trip with dh's work friends & see what we can do with the house (we are totally redoing the landscaping, making plans for remodeling the house ,etc,etc.).
I'm looking forward to caring for a baby! It will be such a joy & we hope it will be a blessing to the baby!
Is anyone else in the process of becoming a foster parent right now?
How exciting. Congratulations! It's so nice when the end of all the paperwork is in sight.

Yikes, there is TONS to do before then. Gulp.
Thanks!
We had our follow -up today. I was really stressed, but the S.W. said that she got all our refrences & they confirmed her belief that we were good parents & that they just wanted to be sure that we were at an okay place with our infertility & such. It was a very quick visit & she said she is excited for us to be licensed. We got our livescan done & tomorrow 1 of us will do our water safety. Then its just the home inspection & we are DONE!!!!
We have been foster parenting for more than 10 years now..m
I'm very excited for you! And the children who need foster homes. It's been a positive experience for our family. We are also in the process of fising up our home to increase space so we can open our home to a few more children.
Are you fostering to adopt? Here it's called resource homes.

We are not techincally foster to adopt. But, the agency we are getting our license through will assist you in adopting if the baby becomes adoptable (we are going through an agency that only works with infants. long term cases. 1 child at a time.). They have found that they dont have a high incidence of reunifacation, so it is very possible we will get the chance to adopt.
I am very happy for you!! The excitement must be just about to make you burst. Please keep us updated on how things are going. Once you have navigated the process, how long until you will have a child?

I think it is different with the state, but with our agency we completed classes on Feb 28th & if we hadnt been moving they said we would be licensed by approx March 15. Since we are moving we will wait til the begining of April to get our home inspection & then we should have our license right away! Our agency is small so they have plenty of time to devote to the families & get us licensed quicker despite the fact that they are more thorough.
We did our training while still living in our old home then had the home study completed after we moved approximately two months later. It all happened very quickly.
I am very excited for you! it's an amazing gift for your family and the children whotouch our lives.
note to self - dont post on a foster parenting board that you are planning to use organic formula unless you want to feel like a hippy freak who has not an ounce of intelligence. everything you say will be contradicted or in some way - any way - wrong. please people. get a grip. LOL sorry - didnt want to waste another thread but just had to rant about that one! LOL I knew I shouldnt be reading there when people were posting complaining about having to hold their foster babies - but I went there anyway.
