They got our paperwork & we go in next week for our personality evaluation. woo-hoo! I hope she didnt think I was a dork already though - I'm not a phone person to begin with & I have a huge hard time talking on the phone when there is *any* other noise - well, my 2 yr old was nursing & talking while i was trying to talk on the phone. LOL
She told me the order of how things go, but I forget because of the above mentioned toddler talking LOL Can someone remind me? What come after the personality eval? Our classes start next month - will we do more than the eval before then?
my biggest fear is of the home thing - my home is tiny & a wreck. We are trying real hard to get it in order - but the only thing that is really gonna help is movingsomewhere bigger. Oh, and our property is a wreck & needs to be picked up...sigh........
Good luck! We just had our 3rd & final home visit (I can't tell you the order you'll go through, they vary by state), and she made sure we had running water, toilets that flushed,a working fridge & smoke detectors, a fore extinguisher in the kitchen, and appropriate child safety stuff - gates, outlet covers, door knob covers, working front and read door doors and locks, working outside lght, etc. She advised us to clean up one area of our backyard where we had a tree removed, other than that we were ok.
In NJ, we will have nother home inspection similar to this one by the child's case manager before a child is placed in our home.

I just looked at prices on fire extinguishers & such & was pleasantly surprised to find out how inexpensive it all is! I'm going to order it right away - we've been wanting some fire saftey items anyway - so we should be set! We already got some cabinet locks & outlet covers,etc....now if I could just figure out how to have a tidy house. I am soooo overhwelmed. Our house is so small - we have books & stuff EVERYWHERE! ugh!
Don't worry too much about the home study. I was really worried--our one bathroom is non-functional (we're in the middle of remodeling it) and we don't have trim on the windows and doors of the other bathroom or the kitchen.
We found out this week that we are officially certified, the home study is done and we've been approved for placement...so obviously those things didn't matter. I just made sure the house was clean and that the above mentioned things were in place (extinguishers, fire alarms, locks, etc.). The case worker seemed impressed that we had all that stuff already done.
Also, we are friends with two couples who are foster parents and both of them have houses that are crowded with stuff. As long as your stuff has a place and it's not strewn about the room, I don't think it will matter. (and I don't mean kids toys, obviously if you're kids are home and playing there will be toys strewn about. LOL).
Blessings to you!
Jeni

I am getting a little less worried about the homestudy - I was surprised how inexpensive things like fire extinguishers are & I have been decluttering like crazy (I have been getting rid of things I never thouight I could LOL) & we are going to hire a housekeeper a couple times a week, so I think it will be okay! LOL
We had our personality eval - I had assumed it was going to be in the form of talking to someone - surprised it was a fill in the dot questionaire! Feeling pretty good about that one LOL
so...... we are anxious & very excited. I am buying like a mad woman & dh is making fun of me - I mean how many bottles can you need? LOL
