We're getting there!

Quick catch-up: We're in the process of getting custody of my cousin's son. He's in foster care now, so we're getting certified as foster parents.

Both parents have told a judge that they prefer Alex to be with us. I don't think the bf is thrilled with the idea, but is going along with it b/c my cousin likes the idea.

Our homestudy is done and should be en route to PA...so the waiting begins. Working with one state is crazy enough...waiting for two states to work together is going to be patience-testing.

We're going to visit with Alex and his caseworker next week. We'll also get to take him for a morning and just have fun with him. That will give him and Miriam more time to bond.

We're excited about getting to spend time with him, but I always want to cry when we leave--I want to bring him with us!

Thanks for reading.
Jeni

I highly encourage you to read some books on kinship adoption. It is almost mroe complicated than non-kinship b/c the family ties are there for everyone.
And I'm not sure how old your cousin's son is, but the book "Toddler Adoption" is an indispensable resource if he is between 1-3 years old. Especially if your biological dd is younger than he is.

Good luck with everything.

Good luck! We have friends who adopted a cousin's child. It took a lot longer than they hoped to get the child in their home, but once they did the adoption went quickly.

All the best to you!
