Life's a Journey: EFT Smooths the Way

Giving and Receiving

by Deborah Donndelinger, EFT-ADV

Issue 12, June 14, 2007

Hello friends,

I have been reading Bert Hellinger’s book, Insights, about Family Constellations. I’m just starting but in the beginning he talks about giving and receiving as being two essential parts of a relationship. If giving and receiving are out of balance, the relationship can’t grow and thrive. The only exception to this is with parents and children; in that relationship, parents give to their children and the children receive; that is the natural order of things. In looking at my own relationships, I find myself out of balance with giving and receiving; in some relationships I give too much, in others I take too much.

So here’s a tapping sequence on giving and receiving. Remember that sometimes we exaggerate the language in order to more easily clear out the energy of the underlying emotion.

Enjoy.

Set-Up Phrase:

Even though I don’t know how to give and receive gracefully, and I feel inadequate in my relationships, I love myself and appreciate my desire for healthy relationships.

Even though I have to give in order to be loved, or at least that’s what I think, I accept myself and honor my desire to feel loved.

Even though I take because no one will give to me, I love myself and appreciate my ability to take care of myself.

Enjoy.

Eyebrow: I don’t know how to give
Side of the Eye: I don’t know how to receive
Under the Eye: I only know how to look out for myself
Nose: I lose myself when I give
Chin: I get scared if I try to receive
Collarbone: I don’t know how to be in relationship with others
Under the arm: Giving …
Head: and receiving.
Eyebrow: Two sides of the same coin.
Side of the Eye: Being in relationship with others.
Under the Eye: I give to prove my worth
Nose: I give to earn love
Chin: I don’t know how to give out of love
Collarbone: I don’t know how to give
Under the arm: I don’t know how to receive
Head: I don’t know.

Eyebrow: I’m open to the idea …
Side of the Eye: of opening my heart.
Under the Eye: I’m open to the idea …
Nose: .. of trusting others.
Chin: I’m open to the idea …
Collarbone: that I’m lovable.
Under the arm: I’m open to the idea …
Head: … that it’s safe to receive.
Eyebrow: It’s safe to receive.
Side of the Eye: It’s loving to give.
Under the Eye: I can give and receive.
Nose: I can trust and love others,
Chin: both giving and receiving.
Collarbone: It’s safe to receive.
Under the arm: It’s safe to love.
Head: I am safe and loved, able to give and receive.

Enjoy. Let me know how it works for you.
