Arrow when do you bid on an auction?

I'm curious, I usually bid my max amount and then walk away until it's over. It's too easy for me to get caught up in a bidding war and you know how that can go... granted, I don't win many with that method LOL it's probably forthe best though.

do you manually snipe? or use a program?

I've got an auction up right now with 18 people watching and hardly any bids LOL i'm wondering when the action will start, it ends on sunday.

I mostly in a seller on ebay, but when I do buy items, then I bid within the last few minutes, because I dont wanna become at war with someone and end up spending more money on the item than I wanted too!

I set two amounts for myself...my absolute highest and a few dollars less than that. I bid right away with the lower amount (which is usually more than the auction start price), then if I'm outbid I'll go up to my max. I win some, lose some. MOST of the time I have pretty good self control and don't go over my max.

sometimes if I know I won't be around when the auction ends then I'll bid my highest (or what I think my highest would be,lol!) but usually I bid at the last minute (if I remember!lol!)

I bid the last few seconds with esnipe... and have only lost one using that method. BUT.. I will bid early (usually the minium) if there are no other bidders- I worry the seller will take down the auction if they think no one is interested.

Esnipe is the only way to go!

Dear Mom and Dad- I may parent differently than you did. This does not mean that I think you did it "wrong." However, it also does not mean I am doing it wrong.

Do a search for it on yahoo and it'll pop up and you can create an account.

It's a program that goes into your account for you and puts in a bid (whatever $ you have programmed it to) and it puts in a bid at the very last moment. You pay a small fee on anything you win, and that's how they make their money.

It saves a heck of a lot of time, since I am not constantly checking on when an auction ends. I think I have actually saved money this way too because I don't get caught up in the bidding wars- I just put in the value I want to pay and then just let Esnipe do all the work.

I found it by accident when an auction I really wanted was ending at 3 in the morning and I didn't want to stay up to put in a bid. Up until esnipe, I always put in a bid manaully at the list minute.

I do it manually, cause I am usually willing to go a smidge over my highest, to make sure I win it. It kills me when I really, really want something, and it wins by 20 cents over my limit, just because somebody managed to bid a couple cents over me. If I sit right there with my finger on the button, I can make sure I up my bid before it ends. I have won with 0 seconds on the clock before. I dunno if I have gone up against esnipe before, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't usually get sucked into a bidding war, either. I know where my line is, and unless it is too fantastic, and I will never see it again, I know I will find it again. I only went way beyond what I first planned once, and I still don't regret it.
