WWYD? about auction

I received a package today containing 4 pair of shorts. 2 of them have holes and one has a large stain. The auction stated: They have some piling and fading and a small spot or two but would still make excellent play shorts. I started an email to her but don't want it to aound bad. Help me decide what to say please. Here's what I have so far: "I receive these in the mail today. The blue pair has a hole in the back and a large stain on the front and the pink pair has a hole in the front. I don't remember reading anything in the auction about holes." Does this sound horrid? I have good feedback and don't want to mess it up, but I wouldn't have paid as much knowing the had holes in them, actually, I wouldn't have bid on them! Thanks for any help you can give me. Tina

I would change, "I don't remember reading...." to "The auction doesn't state that there were holes...."

Okay here's what I have. It sounds really abrupt and I don't know what to say to make it not be that way. I don't mean it like that but would like to know if she just didn't notice or thought I wouldn't?! " I received these in the mail today. I noticed the blue pair has a hole in the back and a large stain on the front and the pink pair has a hole in the front. The auction doesn't state there were holes." Thanks for looking, Tina

Here's what I would try...

"I received the shorts today, thank you for such timely shipping. Unfortunately, the blue pair has a hole in the back and a large stain on the front, while the pink pair has a hole in the front. Your auction stated some piling and fading and a small spot or two but didn't say anything about holes."

Now, do you want to keep all of them? Just the other two? What I'd say next would depend on what you'd like to do... Of course, if you want to return just two for a partial refund, it probably won't be worth it, because of shipping costs.

"Had I known about the holes, I probably wouldn't have bid."

Or you can just leave neutral fb-- "2 of 4 items arrived with holes not mentioned in auction." I've had people do that to me. On one occassion, she said one pair of shorts was a large, and it was definitely a small, I wouldn't have sold them to her as a small if they weren't. My other neutral was a Hard Rock Cafe t-shirt, which I sold as vintage ('87), and stated in the auction that it had some definite wear but lots of life left. They buyer said it came with stains! She never contacted me to say anything, just left neutral. I had second thoughts about selling that shirt, but I hadn't worn it in years...

Anyhow, retalitory feedback is against the rules. She can't leave you a neg if you did everything by the rules, and if she does, you can contact ebay to have it changed.

Thanks for the advice. I emailed the seller and he responded that he was sorry for not paying enough attention to the shorts and sent all my money back. What a great reaction! I hadn't expected to get it all, I was hoping to make a deal with him!! So, what should my feedback say? Tina

I would leave positive or neutral feedback since they returned your money with no hassel. I leave negative feedback for those that don't pay and for those trying to rip people off.

You aren't out anything, the seller apologized and righted the transaction immediately. Sounds like a good seller, except for an honest mistake. They'll probably be more careful next time I bet.

Maybe say, "Items not as described, seller refunded money."
