Question Is this whole pp settlement thing a spoof?

I just got an e-mail about paypal and two people taking them to court. It is so long, it looks real, but it is from paypal but says paypal doesn't feel they did anything wrong. Anyways, if I didn't think I did anything wrong, I wouldn't send out such an e-mail.

Did you get one? Is it real or a spoof?

Just got it in my email as well... not clear on what it's all about. I'm off to bed now, but I am going to research it a little tomorrow.

Anyone else have ideas?

be well.

Send it to spoof@paypal.com...they'll tell you if it's real or not. In the meantime, DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT click on any links contained in the e-mail!

It is real. There is a link to it on the paypal site. It's a class action law suit. I spent about an hour reading it today since I am eligible for reembursement of funds. I'm not up to explaining the law suit but basically they are being accused of wrong doing (putting holds on accounts, deleting customer's funds, etc) and also failing to give pertinent information to it's members, which should have been disclosed by law. Paypal is denying that they have done anything wrong .. of course

okay.. this is a quote

In early 2002, Plaintiffs Roberta Toher and Jeffrey Resnick filed separate lawsuits against PayPal, Inc. These two cases were later consolidated into one lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division, entitled In re PayPal Litigation, Case No. CV 02 01227-JF (PVT). The lawsuit alleges that PayPal violated the federal Electronic Fund Transfer Act ("EFTA"), 15 U.S.C. §§ 1693 et seq., including provisions requiring PayPal to supply customers with information about dispute resolution procedures and to follow certain procedures when investigating complaints of unauthorized or incorrect electronic fund transfers. For example, the lawsuit claims that PayPal did not provide account statements in the manner required by the EFTA. The lawsuit further alleges that PayPal has placed inappropriate restrictions or other limits on customers' accounts and engaged in other improper practices. Based on these practices, the lawsuit asserts claims under California state law for conversion, money had and received, negligence, and violations of consumer protection statutes.

I read what you quoted there Sherrie, but can't believe that this is a real thing. Would it be better to use someone other than them? They are basically E-Bay right (and so is half.com which I am going to miss).

Anyways, you always wonder about big companies.

Well. I think that paypal has improved somewhat since bought by ebay. I have not had any trouble with paypal the last year. When I first joined I had money taken from my checking account without authorization. I contacted them and the money was replaced but it took about 2 hours to reach a cust. service rep. At that time Paypal intentionally left their contact number off of the site. I had to do a search on-line and found several sites set up just for those who have been wronged by paypal. Someone had posted a list of phone numbers. I had to call maybe 10 of them (not toll free) before I was able to reach someone who could help me.

Now paypal has a contact number on the site and is supposedly more professional and more trustworthy.

I am going to continue using paypal for now. I'm giving them one more chance. I honestly can't imagine NOT using them. It has made shopping on-line so convenient for me. I also enjoy using ebay and half.com (get most of our books there)

If you follow the link given in the email notice it will take you to a site with much more information regarding the law suit. If you have been wronged by Paypal then you can file a claim on-line, which I did.
