stamps.com question and/or sending packages parcel post/first class

I am looking at stamps.com because you can create postage online. I see the monthly charge is $15.99. Is that the base charge and then actual postage is extra? Or do you pay that amount and then the postage you use is deducted from that amount. I know it's a stupid question and I am questing it is the first -- that you pay the $15.99 as a base charge and pay additional for postage.

I am looking for a way to create online postage when I want to send packages first class/parcel post. When I use the USPS site, it doesn't allow me to send packages that way - only options are more expensive such as priority shipping. I am hoping to save trips to the post office.

Thanks for any info!

I have stamps.com, but it costs me 10% of the postage I print with a minimum of $3.95 per month. I think there is another option that allows unlimited postage for a flat fee too.

ot:
but we will see you thursday?

Well, I don't see the option that you have Kristi. I signed up for the promotional offer so I am trying it one month free and will get the freebies that go with that...but then I will contact them to switch to a less expensive option or cancel.

I wish I could find a FREE way of sending first class/parcel post -- I mean I pay postage but not service fees. Or very small service fees.

They used to have the cheaper option but they don't now. You can ship first class through paypal... there is a charge but it may be worth it depending on how many 1st class packages you send a month. The paypal charge is $.20 so you would have to send 80 packages a month to make up for the $15.99. Of course, if you don't take your payments through paypal then you can't ship that way....

HTHs!

Did you already sign up? I could give you a referal so I could get free shipping

hi
do you live in a rural area? If so the carrier will pick up for you.
I have a city address but live in a rural area on the outskirts of town. The carriers don't drive a USPS vehicle, just plain cars. A few weeks ago I got a flyer about "letting the post office come to you" and explained the services. Not sure if this is only for rural carriers or everyone but worth looking into.

Have you checked out Endicia.com? I think it's cheaper. The user interface is a lot clunkier and I used to hate it, but I'm used to it now.
