Switching to prefolds from Motherease

Despite Dh's protests, I want to use prefolds this time instead of Motherease. I loved the Motherease, but I just want a slimmer fit. So, now Dh and a dear friend are telling me how much the prefolds will leak and how hard they will be to use, and so on. Anyone else ever done this and been sorely disappointed? I have used prefolds before with Bummis covers during the newborn period with each of the other kids. I also LIKED pinning dipes, because I could get them on so well. Any opinions? Do you really have to change the cover with almost every dipe? Did the poop escape dipe and cover very often? Did you like some other cover better than Bummis superr whisper wrap?

Prefolds are nice because they fit in almost any cover. They wash up great and dry fast. I loved the bsww because I could use them with a prefold or with a fitted interchangeably, which can't be said for every cover! They are also super durable and can be washed with the dipes. They fit almost any baby. And they don't leak. But, I never was able to get such a good fit with prefolds that runny poop wouldn't escape. With nearly every baby poop dipe I did have to wash the cover. Once your baby is a few months old and bm is once or twice a day it's not such a big deal but you need a lot of covers for a newborn. I have never been able to get away with fewer than 5 covers for my babies. Lots of moms swear by proraps because they work and they are cheap too. I think they work better for a slimmer baby though. I have less experience with wahm covers but Stacinator So Simple is a great choice, durable, fits everyone, fits over pf and fitteds. I was able to reduce poop escaping by fitting the pf to cover a bit of thigh on the baby and then pin. Does that make sense? I didn't fold it just to fit inside the crotch area, but made sure it snugly covered a bit of thigh. HTH!

I read about a great prefold fold, the jelly roll, recently that works great for containing blowouts. Lay baby on prefold as if you were going to do a newspaper fold, but instead of folding in the front of the diaper to the desired width you roll in the edges to the width you need. The roll creates sidewalls and contains everything. The pictures I saw of thre roll really looked great. Worth a try maybe.

Hope my description is clear enough for you to understand. If I could find the link to the site I saw it on I'd have posted it. I thought it was on Little Turtle Knits but I can't find it now?

Thanks for the replies. I am collecting covers now, so I have time to get more at a lower price. On the pinning around the thigh- I usually did a twist with DS which resulted in a nice snug bit of dipe around the thigh, so I think I understand. Also, the twist created a poop pocket. The twist never did work for DD; different equipment I guess.
With the jelly roll, it sounds like it might be more effective for a girl, create the same pocket effect, and then I like the idea of sidewalls. It seems it would make a nice bit of dipe around the thigh, as well. Great idea! Thanks!

I have used prefolds interchangably with fitteds since dd was born. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the jelly roll fold - it is the only fold that held in that runny bf poo! I had proraps at first, but I didn't care for them because they left red marks on dd's back and legs. I love the BSWW though. The Bummis original worked well for me too. It is thinner so it seemed to be trimmer (probably just my imagination though) I did have to change the cover with almost every poo - until I found the jelly roll, then it didn't leak as often. I never had any poo leaks out of the cover. I didn't mind washing covers so much - I usually got a new cover when she pooped anyway, whether it got on the cover or not. Just one of my little quirks I guess LOL

I love the bikini twist, and it seems to contain poop for me just great. (though my boys' as sorta solid now)

I had the worst experience with bummis, they leaked like crazy for me and always smelled like pee.

I have friends who like the bumpy and also the ME rikky, and also Litewraps, in case you are interested in alternatives.

Good luck!

Danica just posted about some dipes she found that she really likes and they are slim too. I believe they were from growmearainbow.

Nay experience with these ladies?
