I used Newborn Kissaluvs with stacinator covers with my baby, he was born weighing 7 pounds 11 ouches and was about 19 inches. The diapers fit well though he did look like his bottom was twice the size it should be wearing a thick diaper and a thick wool cover.
We never had any meconium staining. Any staining we did have we simply sunned out but his meconium never made stains.
His Kissaluvs fit for about 3-5 months, when he started wanting to try and scoot and crawl we went with a trimmer diaper.
We had 24 Kissaluvs and 4 Stacinator covers we changed him every 2 hours and washed every other day. Some of the stacinator covers fit better at the beginning and others which were ever so slightly larger fit better towards the end. The Kissaluv newborn diapers have a fold down cord snap so it doesnt aggravate the future bellybutton.
This might be a little more expensive then prefolds but its easy easy easy to use these diapers and covers. My son has never been in a disposable. The one nurse to diaper him used the snap on diaper and cover with no trouble. heck my husband and my 12 year old neighbor never had trouble using snap diapers. Snaps take the guess work out of fit.
1 trick to get meconium in diaper changes to be less horrid. Oil breaks down meconium so use extra olive oil in your wipe solution. We never used more then one cloth flannel flannel wipe per meconium diaper because I heard of this trick before my son was born. Also we have never used a disposable wipe on him!
I remember the lady who taught our how to take care of a baby class telling everyone to plan on a min of 5 wipes per meconium diaper and that it would be hard to get off, seriously with the oil its gone!
Goodluck, if you need wipes I sell them at
www.mrsmacadoos.com along with wetbags and changing pads.
