Can I re-waterproof a fleece cover?

I have a fleece cover that I loved for dd, and it is still in great shape, but I made the mistake of washing it with vinegar, and stripped most of the waterproofness from it. Now I'd like to use it for this next baby, but I need to make it waterproof again before I can put it in the stash. Will Nikwax work, or is there something that will work better for fleece covers? (It is MM 200 fleece, I believe, if it makes any difference)

I would consider just using some fabric softner. I think that is a no-no w/ dipes because it coats them so they dont absorb, so maybe it would cause the cover to work again. dont know, just a thought.

I've heard the fabric softener thing too. Just throw a sheet in with the cover in the dryer. Nikwax is also good to waterproof fleece. Many people use it on polar fleece outerwear so it should work on dipes.

I tried the fabric softener when dd was still using the cover. It helped, but didn't totally waterproof it like it was when I bought it. I will go buy some Nikwax & see how that works.

Thanks for the input, ladies!

Robin,

I know my Jo-Ann's has some Nikwax on clearance right now (and their clearance is even on sale for another 30% off) so it only costs $3.50 for a 10 oz. bottle. I don't know what it costs normally elsewhere, but I think that is a really good deal. LMK if you want me to pick some up for you (of course shipping might not make it worth it).

oooh thanks for the tip! I will swing by Joann's tomorrow & see if mine has it on clearance too. I am pretty sure that's a great deal.
