should i keep clothing or not?

I have a girl (3) and a boy (1) and I am not planning on getting pregnant for at least another year. (Then of course it takes nearly a year to grow a baby....so far I've gotten pregnant the minute I think about it...or before.)

I currently have two bins of children's clothing in my daughter's closet. It's not really taking up space that I need for anything else. I just went through a lot today and took pictures to try and sell it here and then I participate in a biannual consignment sale locally.

But...should I really keep anything? Besides sentimental stuff.

i am not keeping much. not sure if we are done of not, but i figure styles change a bit. I kept some of my fav outfits, and some sentimental stuff, basically a bin with clothes and diapers that were favs from both boys, so one total thats 0-24m fav stuff. I like the thrill of buying for a new baby too much to keep very much LOL

yea...honestly most of what I have is girl stuff. I kinda "made" myself keep a few boy things. Almost nothing clothing wise was sentimental with Jackson. I like the thrill of buying too.

i like the thrill of saving money better, so i know that i'll be thrilled to not need to buy any clothes if i have another boy. the boys t-shirts and shorts and rompers i have will more than likely be exactly the same as what's out in several years, i think. of course girls are different. i was given so much 0-12month stuff that i had way more clothes than isaac needed (as you already know, julie!), so i am selling a good bit AND keeping a good bit.

I don't save clothing for a possible future child.

When I shop for clothing for the kids I tend to buy things that really suit that individual child. Mason likes striped shirts...a bonus if they're red. And he likes soft pants (prefers corduroys to jeans). Isabelle likes purple, bright blue, things with embroidered flowers. Their wardrobes are just personality-specific.

To put their clothes on a sibling just seems wrong unless it's the most basic of basics (solid tshirt or sweatpants or something). And things like that can always be found cheap.

I only keep the things I love or that are basics. Even though we have all boys, I have found that if there is an outfit that I don't love the baby won't wear it very much. So I keep the ones that I really love and sell or donate the rest.

Three kids later, my attic is filled with tubs of outgrown clothes, shoes, and outerwear. I have decided to get rid of all of it except for what might fit my youngest. I am drowning... That said, I still don't have all of the right season/size for my youngest despite what I do have. I think if I had it to do again, I would just hold onto outerwear, long undies/woolens, and our hanna long johns and zippers. Basically the things that are expensive to replace and are good for all genders. Everything else is easy to replace and find second hand.

my kids grow so slowly that we just kept everything. I had pretty much all seasons in each size because they overlapped a lot.. and we knew we were going to space them closely. I lucked out because Leila was born 3 days before Lindsey's birthday - so everything worked perfectly. I would have had to suppliment a bit if she'd been a boy since all the newborn stuff was for a Dec. boy.

For us, it didn't make sense to rebuy everything because we were hoping to have all 3 within 4 years - and it worked out that way. But.. if we'd been planning on spacing them out, like you are, I would have only kept my favorite stuff and planned on buying the rest at kidsignments.

true. well...not only....who knows. isaac is so small and grew soooo slowly for a while that i have a couple of seasons in each size so far...lol.

well...i don't mind being the only keeper in the group . but...even then, i have sold at least half so far to get money to buy the next season. i have a friend who has never gotten rid of any piece of clothing!

I have one large rubbermaid full of sentimental items, things I've made that I really like and aren't trashed, etc. Hanna daydresses/leggings/socks because Katie gets one every year or two for her special birthday dress, the outfits they first wore as babies (and I did use some on Jake that Katie wore, and find the ones they both wore to be extra-special).

If/when I finally get pg with #3, I will cull from that bin and get rid of some stuff, use some stuff, and then save some special things from #3. I have determined that the bin will never get bigger, LOL.

I am planning on sewing/thrifting most of #3's clothing...I just find that most stuff gets too stained or worn to reuse for another child. Maybe my kids are just hard on clothes. Especially now that they are older!

That has always been my issue with saving clothing...

Sometimes that was an issue for me, but my girls are built differently, so Lauren ended up wearing Kathryn's hand-me-downs anyway because she was bigger than Kathryn. Kathryn was born in early June, and Lauren was born 3 days after Christmas.

I saved just about everything, but that's because we have always struggled financially since I became a SAHM (when Kathryn was 22 mos).

We are done having children, so now I either sell or donate what doesn't fit either of them any more.
