Saving all of this stuff for a yard sale is stressing me out.
We are moving in June and I have been clearning out since Dec. I have a mountain of stuff for a yard sale but just having the mountain is stressing me out. There is a lot of good stuff in the pile that I think I could make $200 or more. But at this point I'm wondering if it's really worth it. We have NO space to keep this stuff and it's taking up half of our already crowded basement.
Should I call the Vets and have them come pick it all up or should I store it and suck it up a few more weeks. I'm not really sure it's worth it.
and if you dont have the yard sale this weekend, no matter what you think you could make off of the stuff, donate it. have some charity that can really benefit from the things or the money they can make from it pick it up get it out of your way...

I feel your pain
I did the same thing a year ago before our big move. I ended up being so stressed over the pile of junk in my garage and then it took me 4 days to sort, price, and set it all up. I made over $500 in the end but it still wasn't worth it.
I just decluttered yesterday and intend to call up our local pantry and have them take it all away to save me the stress.

$500 is weeks of riding lessons for my dds. For me, it would be well worth it.
What I wouldn't do is save stuff for a year, say. And I wouldn't go crazy pricing everything. If I were moving, I'd just put it out and put same priced things together, I wouldn't price every tiny thing individually. I'd also get the kids and dh to help. I'd also let the kids price their own stuff, dh, ditto.
I've never actually had a yard sale (donated to them, and did a group LLL one at a friends house years ago), but if I did, $500 would be significant money.
SInce Kaight has saved everything this long, she might as well go ahead and have it already--see if she can make some $. I recommend not prolonging the agony, however. Do it soon and be done with it.
At 11pm last night as I was in the basement muttering, my husband said, "why are you bothering with all of that stuff, just get rid of it". I thought he wanted me to try to sell it all and he thought I wanted to sell it. We were so far off base from one another.
So at 11:15pm I posted to our local parents list and freecycle that it would all be on the lawn by 8am. It's now almost noon and more than half gone. I couldn't be happier. Apparently yard sales are much more fun to visit than to host . We've always donated stuff, I don't know how we both thought that the other person wanted a yard sale. It's all good now. I'm sure the freecyclers will be by this afternoon and it'll be gone by dinner.
Rob also said I highly overestimated the value of our crappola and we probably would have been lucky to make $100. I vow from this day forward to never, ever entertain the idea of a yard sale again.
Ahhhhhh, I think I'm breathing easier now.
ot- Laurie, what seat does your dd ride? I grew up barrel racing but switched to dressage right after high school and thru college. We sold our horse when we moved here because board was almost as much as our rent . I'm looking forward to buying a horse or 2 in the next few years to get our kids riding as early as possible. Now I miss our Brave Gunnar.
My dds take dressage lessons, but neither wants to show. Which is actually fine w/me, cost-wise, except my oldest is gorgeous on a horse. She's all lean muscle mass, very strong and a good horse communicator. She has a long ballet/riding type body. Lovely. My mama ego would like to see here out there looking so good. . I think the little one (just started) might show some day, but I don't know. They just love horses and riding. My oldest is able to take the horse on wooded trails, so that suits her fine.
We don't own a horse, but I think we will probably lease one at some point. Since they don't show, there doesn't seem to be a good reason to spend the money at this point, seeing they can ride frequently and usually the same horse. If we move to a place with land (we go back and forth on that constantly) we would get two horses, so they could keep each other company.

I was going to suggest freecycle too. That's what we just did when we moved. I had Sooooo much stuff I wanted to puke. I didn't have the ambition or time for a yard sale so I did a freesale. I just said, here's where I live and theres stuff here. I didn't list what is was or anything. Just come get it!
