cross post.... Loft beds and space issues....
I have been thinking seriously about this and we are finally moving the kids downstairs into their own rooms. Cyan will be 3, and Alex will be 8 in July. Alex is really starting to become territorial and I am trying to honor that by allowing him to have his own "I want quiet" space. So to their own rooms we go... the only trouble is that the rooms we are moving them into are literally 1/4 the size of the one they are in together now. So I had to do some spacial planning and some serious decluttering (which of course is in the planning phase still.... lol...) and I asked my dad to help build, or buy a loft bed for my ds for his July birthday. If we build it we may not save more than $75 but we will get just what we want. So I am hoping that he will help me with that. It will create SO much space in this small room, and I know that Alex will like it, because he has always loved the top bunk... So that is my plan for his birthday. That and a Gandolf the Grey costume (complete with large grey felt hat, sword and sheild. All but the wooden things I will be making... ) will be his gift from us. I feel like I have his room all figured out...
Cyan is not ready for a loft bed and here lies my questions and reason for this post. She has two LARGE closets in her new room. I currently have my art supplies in one and my sewing things in the other on shelves. I am planning on moving my sewing room upstairs to their old room along with the computer things and keep that closet for her clothes, with short closet rods and shelves above where her clothes would be... but I am hoping to keep the art stuff in her room.
What do you think I could do to make the art supplies secure so she does not get into them (this is a MUST before I put her in that room... she is distructo baby!)? And how do you think I could create more space in her room even though she is not ready for a loft bed? (Removing the dresser entirly and putting up shelves (painted her colors of course) with baskets around the room would help so she has some where for her toys to be "away", but more ideas would be great!)
