What's the key?

To keeping clutter off the floors?

I'm thinking about getting nets to hang in the corners of their bedrooms for stuffed animals. We have a ton of those things.

If anyone figures out how to get children to clean under their beds please let me know

I clean under Alex and Cyans beds...

If they have not touched a stuffed animal in about three months it goes... I don't care (anymore) how cute it is, or how much I like it.. it goes.... those things are huge space takers and I don't even really like them that much. There are a few that they have taken to that will always be around, but for most my rule applies.

Baskets... that is how the clutter stays off my floor... lots and lots of baskets.

Love Val

I put many toys into clear Sterilite boxes in a closet that I had cleared out. I like my kids to be able to mix toy sets, and they thrive on it, but 2 or 3 sets at a time is all they can handle picking up, so our "rule" is only to have 2 or 3 sets out at a time.

I can't tell you how much of a difference this has made for clutter on the floor; it's incredible.

We have 2 Waldorf playstands for larger items that aren't part of a "set." I rotate a few items on there.

We also don't keep many stuffed animals. Those that we do have are in a corner with pillows and cushions -- our "reading corner."

Ohh boy i totally understand toys all over the floor .. the girls room here is teeny .. but i dont have a problem with stuffed animals on the floor .. the youngest at 10 Loves to have all her stuffed animals on her top bunk twin bed .... she sleeps curled up in a small area and when i would talk about moving some out of the bed she would have a cow ... which means changing sheets is a whole day activity .. so i took a few garbage bags back there and anything i had never seen or had not seen her play with for a long time or ever say she had the animal as a special one .. i took them and put them in garbage bags .. which i am going to take over to their grandparents house for storage ........ total i got 4 garbage bags of toys off her bed .. no i am not kidding ... and there are probubly 4 more bags on her bed .. Grammie has a basement FUll of stuff they have forgotten about or is to young for them that needs to go.

Me and Grammie are thinking its about Yard sale time , but we are afraid we will not make money.. we really want to use the money to get christmas presents for the girls this christmas. I am thinking this christmas we will be going for more clothing and less toys *lol*

As for cleaning under beds ... cut the legs off the bottom *lol* .. the bunk beds we have the bottom bunk is low to the ground about 1inch or so between the bed and floor .. so there isn't any where to put junk under it

When i was little at my grandparents house they had the little cardboard under bed boxes under my bed so i couldn't stuff anything under there because it was already full .. which storage space under a bed is tremendous !!!

Thanks for the suggestions

I think we're going to have a garage sale this summer. There is so much stuff the kids haven't touched in ages.

I'm going to look into the playstands and get more shelves too. I have 2 sets of bunkbeds in the girls room and it's very crowded.

I like it!

That is well-thought out.

I love the concept of trundle beds. I once saw a single over double with double trundle (i.e. sleeps 5) ... great for a large family, frequent visits, or small cottage.

We are looking at these beds for the boys - bookshelf headboards AND drawers below

http://www.thebrick.com/Application/...Code=4400BKBED

but they want bunks so we might get the loft version (see the link on the same page $799 item)

My husband made the second bunk bed we added to the room so the price was right

I eliminated a bunch of unused stuff yeaterday and plan to get more done before this weekend. I can actually see the floor again
