So I would like to make a clutter challange for this week.

How about we pick a room to do this week... complete along with organizing and dusting? I am going to do this every week (or every few days if I can keep it up.) and would like some people to keep me in check and just to post too about the great discoveries that I find.

How about it? Anyone else? If others are interested I will start a new post this monday and we will see how it goes... then depending on how fast we can get it done I will start a new room every three days to week. What do you all think? Imput? Participants?

Love Val

I'm in

This'll be good for me. Weeding out while I pack so I don't end up dragging every last thing to the new house. LOL - does my excuse that we'll have more space over there hold up as a reason to hang onto things?

Great! Are we all picking the same room? There are some rooms I'm not ready to tackle -- kitchen & office come to mind -- but I'm in the middle of doing the toys in the great room (liv room/dining room) so that, or kids' room, would be perfect. Maybe it would be best/easiest if we each picked whatever room we wanted, each week?

I like the idea of including dusting/deep cleaning. I have not done baseboards, ceiling fans and vacuuming the ceiling/corners in a long time...too long.

I was thinking we could all tackle the same room at the same time and post pictures. It would be fun to see what we all have done and how they look different and yet the same (CLEAN! lol) I am cool with tackling the kids room/play areas first, if you want to wait for others. Not everyone needs to participate every week either... espically if we have a whole little group going. I mean cuz there are some that do not have some rooms, and will either have to improvise or skip that week. I will always post a cross post in S&T so everyone can join in when needed for their houses and needs.

My sewing room has to be soon though. That one will be a week long one...

post suggestions for which rooms and how long you need the time frame to be too please. So far I am thinking:

Dinning room (three day)
Kitchen (week)
Living room (three day)
Kids area (three day)
Bedroom #1 (three day)
Bedroom #2 (three day)
Bedroom #3 (three day (I only have two but I would be willing to find something else for those that have three or more)
Office (week)
Sewing space (week)
Garage (week)

etc... whatcha think?

I like the idea of including deep cleaning too... that helps it all become maintainable instead of just tidy. You know? I sort of want it to become a tiny support group of people doing the same thing at the same time and supporting each other. We are all after something so much simpler and many have fallen off the band wagon. I would be totally cool if we all decide that we are going to do "A" room a week and then post what we have done too... but I want to be able to post something like "I just took all of this stuff out of the closets and now it is sitting on my dinning room table and I want to give up and leave it." And then get lots of hugs and the "your doing a good job, keep going" ... sorts of statments. I am at a place where I need a lot of encouragement to finish anything and a lot of others I know feel the same. I really want to put that power together and give what others need and get what I need at the same time.

Also I want to ONLY dedicate to that room. Sit in it... meditate with it a little bit... put a stereo in there and make the energy happy again. And see what we can do with the spaces we love up a little. I want to have the time to do that so I am not just "getting rid of stuff".... does that make sense?

One thing that really helps me when I am going through time like this (of "spring cleaning") is to only clean one room at a time. I mean really. I will pile all the stuff that does not go in that room out side the door, or put it in piles around the house in the area it needs to go in.... but if I try to put it ALL away that day I end up not really getting anywhere with the room I started in. That is a tip I learned... perhaps it will help.

Maybe at the end we can all have some sort of sale (not necessarily together or on line... but with a post about what we sold and how much we made, and how that got us "______" for our goal of decluttering and simplifing our lives... etc.

I don't know, I am thinking big... but I really want it to work if we can. Sort of like the grocery challange only weekly.

Love Val

Sounds good to me.

Playroom is good for a start. For me, it will be planning the new space, weeding as per what will go in the new plan, packing, cleaning the empty room. I'll have to go on a round 2 after moving to unpack and set everything back up.

I'm embarassed to say I probably need a week for kids stuff. The playroom in the basement, the "current favorites" corner in the livingroom, the art supplies in the dining room, and the leftover toys in their room that never made it downstairs when the basement finally got finished.

Sounds good to me. I also probably need this whole week for kids' stuff, just because we have so much else going on -- appointments for evals w/the school district and speech therapy for Jake, and I have school every night plus homework.

But I'm up for everyone doing the same room each week...it would help motivation, I think.

I desperately need to get a digicam, or I will just be posting what I did, but a before/after would be awesome! I had one, but it's lost.

Anyway, count me in! I'm already at work on the kids' stuff.

Also we have 3 br, one is the master br where we all sleep, the other is the kids' bedroom theoretically, really a secondary playroom/place where Katie's clothes are, and the third br is the office. But however we work it there is so much for me to do in each of those rooms! Especially the office.

I'm excited! This will really help me motivate.
