good decluttering sites? great ideas for organizing things? containers?

post your ideas for me. i am looking into baskets, and may sew some cute liners our of this great bed sheet i have here. (i said 'may' notice) but those wont do for crafts.

and what about all that little junk that you keep in kitchen drawers? do you get drawer organizers? when we move, that is my goal-- to be organized right away instead of having to go back through and organize later...

am
who is still working on that craft cupboard...

A kids idea that has worked for us so far

is to buy cardboard under the bed boxes for their toys. Go ahead and tape up the corners because your kids are going to pull apart the box without even trying! (Don't use the lid; kids don't do lids so well or else you'll find the lid all over the house as it makes it's travels!)

My dds put their dolls in their box and my son his legos. This way they can easily reach them and the box is shallow enough they can see everything at a glance versus deep toy boxes. Shelves don't really work well for us although we have them.

The kitchen junk drawer? It's an American thing eh? I say start fresh with only stuff you use and clean it out every 3-6 months! (I've heard of using cardboard sock organizers as well as fishing tackle organizers - I think in The Tighwad Gazette?)

Warmly,
Debra

Well for Christmas I got a scrapbook desk and cabinet and it has helped me greatly to organize. For the boys crafts, I buy the small rubbermaid clear boxes (size of shoe box) and use those and old wipe boxes, I label the outside so we know what is inside them. Those seem to work well for us.

my FAVORITE decluttering/home organizing site is: www.organizedhome.com .

also, I saw a really wonderful craft cabinet at TARGET (in the furniture area) ... it made me drool with envy ... had little niches and crooks & crannies ... for all sorts of cool trinkets.... ((shudder))

Amity, the set on the top row (3 pieces) is the set I got for Christmas and I love it. I am thinking that I may add another cabinet once we move into a house this summer. I may check my local target and if they have them on clearance I may go ahead and buy it now. It is a nice set and I love that it has lots of room for different things.

~Get rid of what is old or that you don't use. Toss expired herbs, yeast and baking powder. If you can't remember the last time you used some of your cooking gadgets, why not send them off to a new home where they will be appreciated. Make a vow to not bring in any more small appliances, gadgets or knick knacks. Clear off the counters and decide what really needs to be out. If an item has no use in the kitchen it needs to be put somewhere else. Bag or box the items to be dumped, donated or given to a friend.

~Clean out one cabinet at a time. Wipe down the shelves. Clear and wipe down countertops. If you have tile, now is a good time to clean the grout with a degreasing solution. Replace tattered dishtowels. Replace torn or worn shelf paper. Clean out the inside and outside of the refrigerator. Clean the oven. Don't forget to clean the top of the range and the knobs. Dust the ceiling fan. Dust the top of your cabinets and refrigerator.

~Every item needs its own home. When items have a designated place they tend to get put away. If they don't have a home then they tend to get lost.

~Utilize bins and baskets wherever possible to keep "like things" together and at easily accessible. Go vertical. The important concept here is that any time you use vertical space it will free up horizontal space. Utilize the empty vertical wall space in a nearby closet by installing shelves that can be used to store canned goods. Install hanging broom and mop holders. Employ hooks, pegboards, and Lazy Susans. If your counter space is at a premium, see if you can mount some of your small appliances under a cabinet.

~Never Let Clutter Back In

Once you have spent all that time organizing your kitchen, you'll want to make sure that the clutter stays out. Set some time aside once a month to check for clutter buildup. Also spend a few minutes each night putting away anything that doesn't belong in the kitchen. Nip that clutter in the bud before it takes root.

*Now I need to follow through with these great ideas* I have a small kitchen that becomes cluttered very quickly, and I can not stand it anymore!

I had to share and believe me my house is far from being decluttered

I have such a tiny kitchen that I need to go through and toss stuff that is cluttering up my space. I can't stand clutter.
