Felt boards and countdown calendars

I have a whole stack of wool felt squares from - hm - I have no idea why I "NEEDED" to have them. But, I needed them, bought them, and then forgot!

Anyway. I got the new PBK catalog a while ago and they had sort of an advent calendar for other holidays, and I thought how CUTE an idea that would be. We have a felt hallmark advent calendar that hangs on a doorknob, but I'm thinking I want to make something for other holidays, too.

So, if I did - I'd probably make a rectangle with little felt pockets - but what else can I do to them to mark the dates? If I do felt on felt, how do I get it to stick? How do felt boards work?

eta: Aren't they SOOO cute?

Those are soooo cute !!!!!!
They look really easy to make too !!
You could use glue to stick on the dates but I would stitch each pocket.

Thanks for sharing !

What I really want to do is embroider something on each one instead of cutting out a shape that tiny. Hm.

I might have to look at my wool and see what colors I have that could work. I'm glad I have some nice pinking shears.

They are really, really cute. Hallowe'en's my favorite holiday...I would LOVE that one.

I think they'd be pretty time consuming to make like that one, but worth it if you would use it for years.

Yeah - I'm also thinking it would be fairly portable, as far as crafting goes. I plan to bring some squares with me to embroider while I wait at the hospital.

You could also needle felt some wool on to them for a really neat foggy effect or witches hair,etc....

And, BTW - I found the banners (blanks) at Dharma with the rods already on them. They're just off-white, but still a good starting point

Those are wonderful! I'd love them in my home. : ) Perhaps the first year one could do one day per day - you know, create it as you go through the month. Depending on the age of the child/ren, they might be able to help. Hmm... thinking, thinking. I really like these.

Is that candy in the pockets? What could one use instead of a candy?

okay - if I didn't want to stitch the designs down, what could I use? Aleene's, maybe? Or is that blasphemy to the wool felt?

I'm not sure what's in the pockets, but I bet you could find all kinds of things - little clippy barettes, felt jewelry, ponytail holders, fruit leather would probably fit, a little finger puppet, or maybe just shapes.

We have a cute hallmark one that uses magnets and they are embedded in two layers of felt shapes which stick onto the base.

sheesh that was a lot of work - I cut out all the letters for Halloween last night as well as a tiny witch's hat and the letters "eek"

I'm pretty stoked. I think it's going to be SO cute. I need to figure out if I want to dye the background or leave it ivory. I'm leaning toward ivory. I don't want to mess up my FLer and my kitchen sink is porcelain now, so I think my dye-ing days are through.
