If you decorate for halloween, what kinds of decorations do you make for your home? The last few years I've either been staying at someone else's home (so puts a damper on the whole decorating thing) or I've been sick. This year I've already started making and decorating. I'll try to get pictures up later of some of the things I've made (need to find a new picture hosting site before I can put them up).
I plan on putting up a Halloween "tree". We had a storm a few weeks ago that knocked down a branch, I'm going to cut up the branch and put it in a black bucket. Then I'll decorate the branch. I've made some ornaments so far. I've been crocheting amigurumi-like ball zombie-ish heads/balls (LOL). I've also started some cat heads/balls. I've got some felt and wire bats cut out.
I'm starting on some bendy doll mummies, using one pipe cleaner, large beads, white baby yarn and just a little black embriodery floss (for the eyes). The one I've done so far turned out much better than I expected.
I've also made a black rose wreath. I went to the dollar store and bought several bouquets of red roses and a styrofoam wreath. I had black craft paint and black spray paint. I painted the wreath black with one quick coat of craft paint. While that dried, I lightly spray painted the flowers and leaves. I wanted some of the red to show through so I didn't coat it completely. After cutting the stems down, I arranged the roses and leaves on the wreath. It turned out great.
I've also crocheted a girl zombie/goth doll and an owl. For the owl I used this pattern: Pocket Animals & Forest Friends
Its about halfway down. I made my own tail pattern and I used felt for the eyes instead of crochet. I think it turned out well. For the girl, I just sort of winged it.
I have a few more ideas I'm thinking about making, but we will see if I have time after I have made the ornaments for the tree.
Val did some last year that were SO cute. You could search on here - she had a silhouette of a tree on her front door and some spiders with sticky tack around the fireplace. We did that one, and it was darling - I saved the 99c bag of spiders and the sticky tack to re-use this year.
Martha has some great inspiring ideas in the mag with her dressed up on the front and back.I usually only end up buying them when its a holiday issue.
This is the first year where we live in a house that will get more then 6 kids.
Im excited to decorate, but both dh and i love to go trick or treating with the children and usually no one is home to give out candy !!!!!!!!!!
I love "differently" carved pumpkins, and I love the idea of a hanging spiders nest in the entrance..(thanks Martha!)
It gave me the heebie Jeebies just looking at it !! And Sooooooooo inexpensive !!
I made a few bendy dolls for halloween last year, a witch, a vampire, and a mummy. I also made a fall elf.
We have a little aluminum christmas tree that we leave up year round and I've already started decorating it for Halloween, with a witch on the top, cloth ghosts hanging from some of the branches and fall colored lights.
I always go shopping for sales after holidays are over and I found some nice Halloween craft kits last year a JoAnn Fabrics that we will be making this year ( a wooden skeleton to paint and some ornament made out of large jingle bells).
I know we will also carve a pumpkin or two and decorate the dollhouse size castle in Aidan's room so it looks like a haunted castle. I don't know yet if we'll do anything else.

Well I'm still working on these crafts. I decided to buy a white Christmas Tree to use as my Halloween tree instead of the tree branch. I'm still making decorations but I did buy some black glitter balls and some silver ball to put in the tree.
So far I've painted some red roses (from the dollar store) black and pushed that into the tree. I'm still working on my zombie heads and cats. I also made a bat wing pattern to dress up some of the black balls. I'm making spiders out of wooden bead, wooden balls and pipe cleaners to put on the tree. I made the tree topper out of a styrofoam cone I got from the dollar store, black paint, black feathers and a stick from the yard.
I've made a spider web between some sticks I got out of the yard and cotton string yarn. It turned out really well. I also made some flower balls out of styrofoam balls painted black covered in flowers (that I had lightly spray painted black also so some of the original color showed through). I got some urn style vases and put the balls on top of them.
I haven't worked on my felt/wire bats yet, but I've been busy with so many other projects, LOL.
Oh and I hit the jackpot this weekend at Goodwill. I found several jars that I could use as potion ingredient jars (not sure I'll be able to get to that this year but I couldn't pass up the jars from $.79 to $1.99 each), a white flat glazed ceramic owl ($.79), a plaster owl that was tipped in gold ($.79), a set of silver candlesticks (2.99) and a 60's style slinder wooden cat ($3.99). The white owl and candlestick were perfect the way they were so I put them out on display already. The jars got put away for now. The plaster owl needed work so I just covered it in black paint and wiped it off so the gold would show through. It looks great now. The cat is displayed for now as well but I will probably end up painting it black.
Anyway that's it for now I think. I will post pics eventually.
I forgot one other thing I was making...a lighted garland. I bought some purple halloween lights and I've been tying tulle on them. I cut the tulle into strips that are about 1 1/4 inches by about 4 inches. Then I just tied it onto the strand of lights. I've used about 7 yards of tulle so far and I'm a little over half way done. And of course I'm out of tulle so I have to go back and get some more. I think it going to take me another 5-6 yards to finish. It looks good so far.
I hope those of you who have made bendy ghosts, vamps, and mummies will PLEASE share pictures! My kids love bendies, but I'm clueless as to how to make one look like vampire.
I started two wall quilts last month, planning to sell one and keep one in my home, but here it is October 8 and the poor witches are still waiting for me to finish them. They are *sexy* witches. (Can I post that word here?) I just got tired of the ugly witch image and wanted a pretty one.

Aidansmommy, your bendies are great! Thank you for sharing pictures of them.
Is there a place online where I can get beads for bendy heads? What size do you all use? A neighboring town has a JoAnns, but they have beads that are too small and too large. We tried the small ones once but they just looked too weird.
I got my doll head beads from the craft section at Wal-Mart. They were less than two dollars for a bag full. I've never tried buying any craft supplies on line, so I really don't know what all is out there, but I do get adds for JoAnns, so I know you can buy on-line from them.
In an attempt to get my craft stuff organized, I threw out the bags the beads came in, so I'm not positive about the size, but I think they are 1 inch across.
I make wooden bodies and wooden feet with ankles, so a lot of my doll making supplies come from the hardware store.
