Hey look, I made a stick (Buche de Noel)

Making myself toys again. I managed to steal the bendys back from the girls long enough to get some pictures, but they are definate that this is a toy, not a decoration. I wanted a Yule Log decoration for the house since we don't have a fireplace and took inspiration from the Buche de Noel cakes made in France. But, as my brother pointed out. "Its a stick. You could have just picked one up from outside. What next? You make a rock?" (He still thought it was cool-- but just saying lol) I tried to convince him that the mushrooms just wouldn't have stuck as well. And this isn't going to injure anybody when the girls pick it up and chase each other with it *sigh*
Ambre doesn't like bendy's without faces so Gandhi drew faces on them for me, and the girls helped wrap the bendys (sort of) and supervised attaching the hair, so its a family project.

For those keeping track, while this isn't techically a gift: nothing new was purchased, the wool in the log was some I got free during shearing season and processed myself, the yarn that wrapped the bendys was left over from a project, the yarn for the pine boughs was endsI just got from the RAOK thread, the wool for their hair was some that didn't dye dark enough to make cardinals, their holly skirts are scrap wool felt too small for other projects, and the pipecleaners cost me a few cents each. Sum total materials cost me maybe 25 cents.

It's a VERY CUTE stick, and you don't have to worry about bugs living under the bark.

When can I expect that in my mailbox? Hmmmm? Is it hollow? And how big is it? I mean, I need to pick out the correct sized spot... and of course dog and kitty proof it!

It's mine, mine, mine ,mine, mine and I'm being selfish. It's about 18" long and no, it isn't hollow. I wet felted the center and then needlefelted the bark

So what you are saying is I need to make use of all the wool I have? Poo!

What did you use for the browns/bark (or where did you get it I suppose)? I bought some brown for the bark of the giant tree I am still working on but i am not so sure it looks "barky".

Its actually just a fleece I got locally. I just washed it and worked with it as locks since it had beautiful gradiations of color and I liked the texture that the locks gave so that its sort of bumpy. I don't have much of it though and want to do an Ent couple for the living room (kinda like the tree I did awhile back) and I was experimenting, trying to get a similar effect. I just bought some natural dyed roving from Trisha and I took about 5 colors (2 browns, a tan, a grey, and yellow) and carded them together in various combinations and then did a really loose spin on some of it, just sort of rolled some of it in my hands and left some as is. I'm coming out really nice and after a lot of work looks just like the other that I left alone.
