C&S Dino Hats

Here is my prototype Dino hat for the ROAR! Swap - modeled by my almost-4-y-o. I have most of the hats done, but trying to figure out how to crochet on the "scales". What do you think? I know I'm my own worst critic, but I think it looks a little like a rooster

Do you think I should bring the row of orange scales all the way to the front? Just FYI, I made these in this color, teal, and rich purple....

It's really cute! But you're right it does look a little roosterish, lol! But it's really cute! I think bringing the scales more forward might make all the difference. It also may be the colors ... I highly doubt the purple ones or teal ones would look roosterish. It may just be the orange scales.

Either way, my kids are going to love it. Holden especially, who is obsessed with wearing hats all the time now.

LOL! Brutal honesty is a trait I adore (and suffer from <grin>). I guess I wasn't clear in that the body of the hats are the various colors, and the scales were all going to be orange. I may re-think that now....

I have HUGE cones of cotton (about 3 lbs each) in these colors that I got for $1 at the Lion Brand factory in Spindale, NC. Gotta love digging through bins of $1 yarns of all kinds!!

Well, maybe it's not hte orange scales then, Maybe it's just the positioning But like I said, either way I think they're adorable!

Now you have me drooling over the yarn though ... and thinking NC isn't ThAT far, lol. Only 8 hours ...

I grew up in NC (now in NV), so when I go back I may have to hit the outlet store again! I actually scored some cotton variegated chenille cones that were reject colors (I LOVED them) for FREE!! Just gotta talk with the native accent <LOL>!

waah. i shouldn't have opened this post. I always wish i was crafty enough to be in a crafty mamas swap. I looked cuz my son is dino obsessed about 3 days a week (the other 4 days its all buzz lightyear all the time) lol

and the hat is CUTE! I do think if the scales were positioned differently it would look less roosterish. Anyhoo - i think they're adorable

Add me to the list of people who shouldn't have opened these posts. Off to sulk in a corner as I slowly pack up my crafting supplies...
