Sushi anyone?
I made this as a thank you gift for the daughters of my hostess at Sew Expo. I used a Japanese craft book that I bought from Meg aka Nutmeg. It was a lot of fun to do, and I would've enjoyed it more if I hadn't waited until the very last second to make it. I bought the bento box at my local asian market. It was presented wrapped in kimono themed fabric with matching napkins and a chopstick set, but I forgot to snap a pic of that.
Here's the whole box:
and close-ups:
this side is dumplings, sweet egg, shrimp, tuna and salmon
and this side is cucumber and tuna rolls, wasabi and pickled ginger, soy sauce, and finally sea urchin and cucumber rolls.
Now to make Duncan his set.

That is AWESOME! I've been wanting to do some sushi for a while but MAN, MAMA! You went above and beyond. Was she THRILLED to get the COOLEST GIFT EVER?

I have oh.... 10 japanese craft books coming to me LOL. Doll and toy making ones. I can't wait!
I made the set for Ara and Monie and they really loved it. Ara asked me what each piece was and all sorts of questions about how I made it. Those girls are just wonderful.
I actually made it to the Japanese bookstore while in Seattle and picked up 5 books for myself. And one as a gift. They had SO many, I would've gotten more if I knew how to knit.
I am headed to Sacramento in a couple of weeks -- can't wait to check out the 2 Japanese bookstores there (and maybe the one in San Jose on another trip).....
