I am working on my first 3-D animal for a swap and I am making the pattern on my own (anotehr first). It's a shark and I'm starting to think it is too big. Nose to tail it is about 9" long and belly to fin it is about 4" high. In bendylandia, this would be a formidable shark, no doubt.
Should I make the pattern a bit smaller? If so, about what size?
I'd make it no larger than 6 inches...
I mean, if you think of it in terms of 2 feet per inch... 2.5" bendies are 5 feet tall... that would make a 6 inch shark a 12 foot shark

Thanks, Selena! I'm sewing it now for my daughter (she gets the prototype, lol!) and it is just HUGE! I'M scared! lol. I think I'll scale it down to a little over half its size now, about 5-6 inches. In the meantime I'm pretty excited about actually making an animal, even if it is horror-flick quality lol!

Am almost done sewing the mammoth shark, still need to stuff it - may take a bit, depending on DD's cooperation In the meantime, appreciate the fact that when I showed it to DD (who's just turned 2, so really she isn't *that* worldly) she got excited and I asked her what it was and she said "A WHALE!"

lmao! That picture of the whale shark and the scuba diver is not unlike my shark next to a bendy lol!
This morning "Jaws" and I sat down and I made a smaller (read: half as long) model. DD will be pleased, I am sure, to have a mama shark(whale) and a baby shark(whale). Bendies *still* will tremble in fear when they see my new and improved minijaws on their nature table.

I generally make animals "handful" size...and I try to keep them somewhat in scale to each other. The smallest animals are always a bit too big and the largest always a bit too small to be scaled accurately. But that only really applies to animals that might live together...like farm animals or forest animals (although my squirrel is about half the size of my deer...way wrong and I don't care )
The way I see it, it's your world and what you say goes. A child's imagination will glaze over size issues.
