Do any of you Mamas have any suggestions on wet felting a heart? I have made eggs and balls but I was wanted to make a heart for my children for Valentines Day. I made one but it was flat & I wanted a more 3D one.

I thought about putting a bell in the center & felting around it but have no idea how to make it???

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

I'd love to hear some opinions/advice on this as well

What I would do is wrap the roving around a ball and needle felt it lightly into shape, then throw it into an old stocking and toss it in the washer. But i am no good at wet felting so I always needle felt everything first, lol!

Hmm, I was picturing two balls of the same size and then a cone to make a rough outline of a 3D heart then wrapping the wool around that form just like wrapping a ball for welt felting, then wet felt. I haven't tried this, but this is how I think I would attempt it.

You could get a small 3 dimensional heart and wet felt over it. The best would be if you could find a little styrene one because its surface would be rough enough for the felt to stick easily, but I would think any heart would do -- even a light weight wood one. Or you could get a heart shaped piece of soap and wet felt that -- that would be great and easy and probably smell pretty too! If you were worried about "loosing" the heart shape, just build up extra wool on the curvier parts and less in the crease and tip.

Are you looking to make it hollow? Like an egg shell, but just heart shaped?

Then you'll want to cut out a heart shape in foam rubber....she same stuff you use for a needle felting surface. Needle felt your roving on to that and felt it up. I would do it in layers; 2, maybe 3.

It may not work on your first go. See exhibit a: (lol)

Wet felting in dimension is....um.....not always predictable.

Ok, I just reread your post and realize you want it solid.

You should be able to get the shape you're looking for, by hand wet felting. It'll take time and manuevering and patience. Maybe 2 or 3 practice rounds. Needle felt up a base in the shape you're looking for. I'd needle felt it up rather hard too. Then add your color and start felting. Use A LOT of soup so it slips through your hands easily.

I do just about everything in the washing machine so it takes a minute for the spatial side of the brain to flip out of that mode.
