Felt bug c&s, look mom2kbeth!!!

I made these bugs yesterday and today...
All are felt, butterfly has wire running inside the border of the wings, dragonfly has beading wire on the wings and pipe cleaner in the body. All, except the snail are really lightweight so they can be hung.

Those are adorable. I've been meaning to start a dragonfly and ladybug. I just might have to make a few now.

How are the wings attached to the butterfly? And how are the bodies made? As if I need more to do but those are excellent! I should mention that my original college degree intent was entomology so I have a tiny bug affection!

Those are wonderful!! Are those french knots on the butterfly? I can't make a french knot for anything. I keep trying and trying but I keep doing the same wrong thing over and over lol!

Danielle, for french knots I wrap the floss around the point of the needle 2 or 3 times, close to the felt and hold my finger over it while I pull the floss through.

The wings on the butterfly are actually in one piece, there are two pieces of body sewn to it, one under and one on top. Inside butterfly wings is some wire that follows the curve and keeps it in shape, when I did the blanket stitch around then I grabbed the wire on every 4th stitch (if I did every stitch the wire would show from between the two layers). Inside the body is some wire to hold it in shape. I made it without wire at first and then it drooped to one side. So I had to force some wire into it. Next time Iīll just put wire in straight ahead, I spent way too long trying to fix the droopiness.

Dragonfly body is just a long strip that has pipe cleaner wrapped with some wool inside and the wings are sewn on top. Here wings are just one layer of felt. I sewed around the edge of wings with some silver beading wire - this keeps them stretched and even gives some room to play with angles.

And yes, Danielle, there are french knots and I just recently mastered them What helped me was an actual person showing the how-to and then I made a tiny pipe cleaner african person whose hair is all french knots, I must have made couple of hundred of these knots..

I considered putting tiny beads there but I didnīt have any in suitable color and I didnīt want to buy any -- I am trying to reduce my crafting supplies pile before my baby comes. LOL, just yesterday I got 2 lbs of wool and 1/2 lb of roving from West Earl...

If you want I could do a craftalong for the butterfly and dragonfly, I made these for a trade and now I want some for myself too

ooh, yes a craft along! Since the site will be down and you won't be surfing you will have time hint hint (if the DH and kiddos don't get in the way of your precious wool that is).

Oh lupineperriwink, I am expecting my first baby so no interruptions from that side (other than constant kicking and jumping in my belly that is) and dh would love an excuse to not spend time with me but program and play with his computers
Anyway, I should have sth up by tomorrow night

as you can see in my post, I already have my first baby. And she has decided that felting needles are her friend. I seriously tried to poke her a little with one because she wasn't "getting" that they would hurt her and all she did was laugh. I have to do all of my felt stuff in bed or else Maya attacks it and steals things. Of course, as she's doing it she says, "Thank you Mumma." I really need to finish up some things for her basket tonight so I will be able to make the adorable buggies for her tomorrow. Thanks so much!

They're very cute. That snail is so darling. I seem to have a liking for snails recently.
