Talking I made my first wool picture this morning

There was a big vacant spot over our advent wreath so I thought a wool picture of an angel would be perfect. So, I gave it a try. It was totally fun and really fast. I wonder what dh will say when he gets home.

OH, the stars I just cut out of felt. I'm not that good!

Wow! Thats awesome. I've been wanting to do some wool painting with dd for some time now but can't figure out what to do it on. DD is only 3 but her waldorf teacher says she loved doing it at preschool and thought it might be a great holiday gift idea to give her a basket full of little balls of wool roving and we can do wool paintings together. Nothing sophisticated like the one you did of course... I just don't know what to lay the wool on top of. Any ideas?

I used a piece of blue wool felt as the backround. I went over most of it with some wool. I brushed the felt with one of those little brushes meant for cleaning your fingernails to give the wool something good to stick to.

Thanks for the compliments!

thanks!

adding a pic of it *in context*...I took this pic for the "show your decorations" thread on the mkt bd.

I like how it looks over the advent wreath. I also like that it cost next to nothing The frame is a cheapie 2/$5 frame

I just found this while I was searching for something else...

Its beautiful!! Did you needle felt roving onto wool felt?

I just jumped into needle felting head first, with no books or instruction or anything. Im using wool felt, and its not turning out like I thought it would LOL

nope, it's not needle felted....the wool fibers are just sticking to the piece of felt I used as a base all on their own. I put the frame's glass over it to hold everything in place. You can use a felting needle to do a wool picture...I just didn't. I have also heard of stitching the wool here and there to tack it to the felt. Usually wool pictures aren't framed behind glass though...so something would be needed to make it stick together more permanently. I just preferred the way the glass made the colors blend together more so I did my own thing.

thanks Lisa and Robin
