Need suggestions of charitable organizations

I need some suggestions of some charitable organizations that I can donate to as a gift for a relative (like Heifer International). My great aunt is in her 80's, has everything she needs.....Our family would like to make a charitable donation in her name for Christmas instead of giving her more useless "stuff". She's pretty crunchy, vegetarian, and loves children, so I'd like to chose a charity that somehow honors her lifestyle. She's an absolutely wonderful lady with a HUGE heart for others!

One I like is Marion Medical Mission. They help villages in Malawi African dig wells for fresh drinking water.

I wouldn't say these are "crunchy" organizations, but they certainly help children! Their research is important in finding cures and new treatments for Juvenile Diabetes and Cystic Fibrosis (children dear to me affected by both).

American Diabetes Association...

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation...

Make a wish foundation...

I think it's great you're considering this, no matter which organization receives the donation

Not crunchy, but adding in the March of Dimes here for prematurity.

I donate what I can (usually physical stuff since I never seem to have much money) to the local shelter for domestic violence victims. And of course I try to buy stuff through the thrift store they run to support them that way too.

See what organizations or programs are are local to you that could use a donation.. like a seniors center or a wildlife preserve
