Breastfeeding your toddlerSTILL GOT MILK? Are you the one people ask 'are you STILL breastfeeding??' are mee nums still a daily (or even weekly) event? this place holds lots of nips (i mean tips) for you.
Willow's first ped said almost the exact same thing. So...we fired him...and then stopped going to well baby visits...
She just turned 2 and still isn't quite to 25lbs yet...or maybe just at. But she's definitely growing and all that jazz...Why do those jerks in the white coats think they are the be all and end all of knowledge when it comes to everyone. Whatever it is...take a pill...and across the board, it'll help. Yeah...whatever HA.
Sorry you had such a frustrating time with the Doc.
Peace,
Jenn
My little man was alway really small too. I had this one Doc from birth to 6 months old who would ALWAYS make me come in for weighins because he was tiny, and at the 6 month one he told me that I was starving my child!!! Yeah that's what a first time mom really needs to hear. My new doc is pretty nice about it, every now and then we still need to go in for weigh ins but not as much, our new doc says " you need to get this kid a butt." and says well, he's got some meat on his legs, he's just tiny that's all. So I if I were you I'd get a different doc. Im sure that there's a better one out there.
George Carlin said something to the effect like, You know right now there could be someone out there who is THE WORST doctor in the world! And you could be having an appointment with him tomorrow! lol
Sounds like that ped is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off base. clueless. Medical school students are NOT educated much at all about breastfeeding. It shows in many cases. As a nurse, I can tell you of many stories of docs sabotoging (not necessarily on purpose) breastfeeding relationships.
No kidding. When I started having milk supply problems, the first doctor we went to told me to give my DD formula instead of breastfeeding every other feeding and said it wouldn't affect my supply!!! Then she told me that I was starving her because I hadn't started giving her formula. Why do you think I came to see you, moron?! To make sure it WAS a milk supply problem and not something else!
Or the time when I was telling a NP that Eliza wasn't getting enough milk at 9m (we suppliment, much to my dismay) and she said it wasn't a supply problem, that some children are satisfied with a quick nurse at that age. Um...considering we JUST SAID that she was taking 8oz of organic formula after nursing, I don't think she's satisfied!
Sometimes I wonder if doctors (and sometimes nurses) just recite medical text without ever thinking about what's coming out of their mouth.

i got the same thing going on now. J.D. was a little small at 9 months at 17.5 lbs and 19 even at 1 year. But they didn't even consider his height. He is only 27 3/4 in long so he is proportionate and healthy. He started walking 2 weeks before his check up so I suspect that is why. Anyway, dr said he wasn't real concerned but wants to see us in 6 weeks for a weight check.

My 2.5 year old is 26 lbs. I'm so glad we don't so well visits. He's only been to the dr. once in his life, for a sick visit. I would not put up with this dr. anymore Cheryl. I'm sure he's just fine. My first 2 babies were 20 lbs at 4 months. They are built differently than Andrew is. He's little all around. He's a perfectly happy/healthy child who does just what his siblings do, as it sounds like your ds is doing as well. That's probably why he's not gaining so much.

i thought for a minute i was losing my mind because i kept saying (out loud, to dh) "wait a minute --- she's had another baby since chris. she must be talking about luke and just keeps getting the name wrong. -- then i look at the date and realize that neither one of us has lost it. WHEW!

I hear ya on that. Doc's can sometimes talk out their..... you know what's.
My now 5 year old, nursed until he was 4. Ate solids of course like a regular kid. But he started life so big they thought something was wrong with him and kept doing PKU every hour to 2 hours for 2 days just to be sure nothing was wrong. They all came out fine. He was topping the scale until he started walking when his percentile started dropping. Then around his 2nd b-day, he stopped gaining weight. For 2 years he didn't gain a single pound. And barely anything still now that he is 5. But he is getting taller. So I don't know why, but I feed him healthy foods and he sure does know how to pack away the junk food when he gets it. Heck, during a 6 month period he grew 3 inches. So he has to be getting nutrients somewhere. lol. Yet, he only weighs 33 lbs.
It's the same thing with my 2 year old now. He was a big chuncky boy and now I am watching the weight drop off him. This time I am not much worried about it. He eats more than his brother did at this age too. Plus, he gets more exercise because he has someone to chase around and bother. But his weight gain is slowing down too.
I also look at my family history and my husbands. My sisters, brother and myself were all very skinny growing up. I do mean VERY! And we ate alot! I know I did. Up until I hit puberty, I was about 80 lbs. So I think my kids are just following in the high metabolism family tradition.
And I fully expect the same thing to happen with my newest baby boy too.
It is a weird thing though. To have my 2 year old nursing after the baby was born, sharing the same milk, and to see the baby get fat as heck, and my 2 year old doesn't gain a pound. Since I tandem nursed with my now 5 year old and 2 year old when a few years ago, I have gotten to see it happen 2x. It's weird to see it happen, but atleast I know my milk is fattening up someone.
My ds is 26mths, and weighs 23 pounds. He has always been tiny, and breastfed since day one.Thankfully his Dr,told me to breastfeed as long as i can because he is getting everything he needs from me.He is a very PICKY eater and will have one bite and be done with it.My Dr. is a women with 3 children and is breastfeed herself !!!!
Im still concerned with his weight. 23 pounds seems really tiny after reading all the other baby weights posted.
(hes happy.healthy and running and climbing like crazy.)
Seems perfect to me !! LOL!!
