Please sign our petition

I hope it's ok to post this here . . . . .

Sorry for the short notice. (We hope to print and present this petition Saturday 7/29/06.) I thought this had been posted here already. Please forgive me if it has but I didn't see it when I searched.

On July 21, 2006 a local (Cleveland, Ohio) nursing mother (who wishes to remain anonymous) was refused permission to nurse her baby before paying for her purchases at the Aeropostale store in Great Northern Mall (which is owned by Westfield Corp).

Westfield Corp. owns four Cleveland area malls in addition to the malls they own in twelve other states and three other countries (the UK, Australia and New Zealand).

A corporation of this size needs to have a clear, unambiguous stance on breastfeeding on their property. Westfield Corporation needs to educate themselves on the needs specific to the growing numbers of families who chose the healthy, government-endorsed option of breastfeeding their children and demonstrate this throughout their properties.

Please sign our on-line petition so this kind of treatment doesn't set a precident at Westfield properties.

TIA,
Lana

Two things:

1. Why blame the mall and not the store.

2. Why would anyone ask for permission to bf? Just do it!

I agree about the why ask permission . . .but she did. Ohio has a law that states (basically): Any place a mom and her baby are legally allowed to be they are legally allowed to nurse . . .so he had no right telling her "No". We do blame the store and will talk to them. But it's one thing for a single store manager to be uneducated . . . it's another for the manager of the whole MALL to not be informed about a nursing mother's rights.

sorry to tell you this, but online petitions useually dont work.

a nurse-in would probably be much more effective. especilly with ohios bfing law. go in with a bunch of other nursing moms, hand a copy of ohios law (including the definition of 'place of public accomidation') to the mall and the store manager.
