2 week old will not latch on

I think I'm just frustrated...but my 2 week old will not latch on...however I do have her using a nipple shield...

I am trying to wean her off of it but I'm not having any success.

I try offering her my breast after she gets fed from the nipple shield...she will try to suck 2 or 3 times...then pull off and cry...

I'm trying to be patient...I'm planning on callin the LC tomorrow for some help.

We had her 2 week apt today and she has gained weight...she was 7lbs when we left the hospital...she was 7lbs 10oz today!!

just needed to vent

try to latch her on without the nipple shield. if feeding time is stressful, make sure to do some skin to skin contact with her without feeding -- she may be associating the two and get frustrated. let her sense that it's a calming time and then slowly introduce the breast -- after a few times of her just nuzzling your bare skin.
nipple shields have their place, but oftentimes do more harm than good. sorry you're goig through this. just keep on trying and she'll get it

IT will come. We used a nipple sheild for 7 weeks. SLowly we phased it out. Each time I nursed, we always tried to start without it. Then one day he latched! THen the next day he latched again...once. Before I knew it he was only using the NS a couple times a day, and then not at all.

I have used a NS with two of my kids. i found it helpful to let them latch once with it then once they started nursing to slip it off and try to get them to continue without. The key is just to keep trying without it, eventually they do switch over.

I need to work on changing my siggy, it is only 6 months old
