Nursing is going along okay, but she goes so long between feedings!
Elana lost over 10% of her birth weight in the first few days, but she's nearly 1/2 pound over her birth weight at 2.5 weeks. I know she's getting enough because she's growing and wetting/pooping enough. But a newborn that goes 4 - 5 hrs routinely between feedings seems odd! She is nursing both breasts each time (for the most part, when she only does one the time is not as long in between). The ND told us not to worry about it because she's flourishing...still I can't help but wonder.
Just wanted to know if others have had this same experience?
Very smart mama for paying attention to the wet/dirty dipes. that is the best way to make sure baby is getting enough. One thing you could do is to try and offer more frequently, if baby takes it great, if not, no big deal.
Get thee to a local LLL meeting when you can! I find listening to the other mamas right in person helps me a lot. (like why does Sophie have to try to flip upside down when she eats now..oyyyy)

I had planned to go to LLL before she was born, but was sent to the hospital before I got the chance! I attended for about a year when Ava was a baby. I will definitely go when I feel a bit more capable of getting out of the house! lol
She also has very alert times, she's not sleeping *all* the time if it sounded that way. In fact, she's enjoying the shadows on the wall as the sun goes down right now!
Amy, my Celeste was like that. She nursed for 5 minutes every 5 hours, from birth. Scared the CRAP out of me. I tried waking her up every 3 hours. She wouldn't do it. At her 1 wk checkup, she had gained 9 oz, so I figured shew as ok!
E was like that, the ped said he was a very efficient nurser. He gained weight like a champ and everything else was normal. It did kind of freak me out after having a baby that needed to nurse constantly. LOL Sounds like you are both doing wonderful.

Brief update - it's regulating more now than when I first posted...she's up to 4 hrs at night (occasionally once in the day but not often) and every 90 mins to 3 hrs during the day. She's gaining well so I'm not worried at all, but she does have reflux and likes spending a lot of time at the breast.
You can also try to offer more often, and if she doesn't take it, no biggie. With the reflux, if you are able, you can hold her upright position while and after nursing and that seems to help a lot of babies. Also, have you tried breast compressions while nursing, that seems to help a lot with the babies that tend to nurse for a long time.
