Have a nurse-in. Spend as much time with baby at the breast as possible. Carry baby in the sling with breasts uncovered to give easy access. Also, if pumping, nurse first, then pump. Remove all supplements and artificial nipples. More supply issues are caused by the use of pacifiers and supplemental bottles.
Encourage mom to rest and eat and drink. The before mentioned things work wonderfully. Also nettles (in capsules) are often helpful. Breastmilk works on supply and demand, so with an increased demand and adequate nutrition and fluids most moms will see an increase after a couple of days.
If she continues to have problems please encourage her to contact a local LLL group or leader.

5 months is pretty easy. 5 year is not so easy. usually a 5 year old is not gonna want to n urse around the clock to build up a suply..

5 months, is a distractable time for a babe, she can try nursing in bed (a quiet , darkened room) no tv, low lights etc. eating oatmeal etc hdrinking to thirst etc n all help. she needs to avoid meds that *can * decrease supply as well. if babe has recently started solids already, that may account for some of the supply drop as well.
