IDNO a Medela SNS, I want to nurse the boys full time! I am a failure!

I am trying so hard to nurse both boys full time and it seems like every time I get doing a bit better my milk dwindles down again. BOTH BABIES ARE SuPPLEMENTED WITH FORMULA AND SPIT UP THE FORMULA LIKE CRAZY. I feel like a complete failure, I have NEVER had problems nursing before, and now I just seem to keep fighting a non-winning battle. Both babies are mainly formula fed now. I pump, and pump and pump and nerver see an increase, I take Mothers Milk tea, fenugreek, nett, beer, you name it! I spoke with a lactation consultant today who said a Medela S-N-S may help us alot as I tend to pump, then a baby wakes early wants to nurse and nothing is there. I am trying so hard to build my milk supply back up to no avail. Does anyone have a SnS they can sell for a reasonable price????? Pretty please????

Can you believe our twins are "3" already?

Yes, they are twins even though one is a full head taller. (Carter-taller, Collin tinier). Shirts made with love by Mommy!

domperidone would work to increase your supply.

domperidone>>>>>

I have heard this mentioned soooo many times. I just have NO idea where to order it, plus, I think from what I recal it is VERY expensive, right now we can't afford too much.

Hopefully after our court hearing on the 16th we can get out of the hole. EX is about 36k behind in c/s plus my van just broke down AGAIN, not to mention we found out ex missed 2 years of property taxes............................

I just read an article warning about the use of domiperdone. I wish I knew where I read it. I am not saying not to use it but I would research the side effects before doing so.

Domperidone is expensive, but it help so much with relactating. I think it was about $125 or so for 30 days.
Do you pump after you BF?

I have twins, so........

I nurse both of them back to back when possible, even though I know the 1st nursed is getting not enough and the 2nd is getting nothing. When one baby is asleep, I nurse who is up and then pump afterwards when I can. I have heard great things about the domperindine (sp?) but honestly, right now we can't afford it. I am bidding on a SnS at Ebay hoping to get it for under $30.00, but who knows. Our van broke down, and I am going to have to spend $$$m I was going to use for bigger diaper covers on getting that fixed. I hate it when that saying "When it rains it pours" comes true!

Oh, the reason we are thinking SnS is because after I nurse the babies are still soooooooooo hungry we have to give them bottles. I wanted the SnS so they could nurse and get filled while suckling on me still, to build my milk supply up more instead of giving them a bottle which is fighting my battle to build my supply up.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think I still have an SNS that doesn't have the cover (not needed at all) and it only has one set of tubing. It will be a couple hours before I can check, but if I still have it, you're welcome to it for shipping, if it will help you out.

Also, I bet bfar.org (breastfeeding after reduction) and fourfriends.com (adoptive breastfeeding) can give you good leads on the cheapest places to buy domperidone and other supplies. When I used domperidone over four years ago, I ordered it from New Zealand, and I didn't think it was terribly expensive.

I hope you can get one soon, I used one with Max and it worked great for us. I just never seem to make enough milk.
But so far this time I seem to be doing better. Clara came home last night and I just pumped and got more then I ever have! I have been eating oatmeal like a crazy person so I don't know if that hellped or if it is just because Clara is here with me now.
I can't imagine what it will be like when Eleanore gets to come home so I am going to try to pump as much as possible and build up a good supply.
I have thought about getting a SNS, I gave mine away after I was done with it. If you find a cheap source for the domperidone please let me know!
I wish I could have gone to the LLL thing that was here today,AnnB posted about it, but dh had a funeral to go to today, a close family friend killed himself.
Anyway good luck to both of us! I hope we can make this bf work with our twins.
Mindi

Which mg do you get? How often do you take it? And do you need a prescription?
THANKS!

Mindi - so glad to hear Clara came home!

Jennifer - I went through the same thing - it started at 5-6 months( 3-4 months adjusted age) when I couldn't produce enough for them. I had enough in the beginning - but the bigger they get - the more they eat! and had to really dip into my freezer stash from when they were in the NICU. Then when that was gone at 8.5 months - I had to start supplementing. I know theoretically it's "supply and demand" BUT for me there seems to be a max capacity. I had no supply problems with one baby and not with two until 5-6 months. You are NOT a failure though - failure would have been not trying at all. EVery bit of breastmilk they have got is a wonderful gift to them but don't feel bad if you can't exclusively breastfeed twins. Btw - mine were on a couple bottles of supplemental formula a day and still nuring until I weanted Megan at 10 months due to biting and after that maribeth was nursing (no bottles or only very, very rarely until 13 months when she mostly weaned over our move and THEN started biting so that was it). I had no supply issues with ONE baby.

I am a lactation counselor and work with an IBCLC. She gives out sources to moms where they can get dom. She always gives them lots of research on what the dumb drug companies did to get dom. kicked out, but everyone who's ever prescribed it that I've spoken with as said it, out of al the other drugs they give moms who are bfing, has the LEAST amt of side effects on their bodies, and is the most effective.

It's pretty much just another big money scam thing.

i take 9 10mg tabs a day~i spread it out like this:

3 in the am w/breakfast
3 in the pm w/lunch
3 in the pm w/dinner

i tried taking more when i first started it, but it gave me a headache, but the above dose doesn't bother me at all.

as for cost, yes, it's pricey-and no, if ordered at the linked pharmacy, you don't need a script. -but the effects are amazing and just what i seem to need to keep my supply matching with sutt's demand.

mindi~i agree about bf not being an all or nothing thing with twins. just keep that in mind and know that a bottle here & there, as long as it's not having a negative effect on bf, is nothing to be shameful about. -even for a bf natzi like me

that was actually pertaining to the use of domperidone through an IV which is in MUCH higher dosages than you would take orally.
