Mamas with SNS experience, a few ?s for you.

How long did you use it before baby started to really latch without it? Any tips for getting them latch with it? Is there a way to make it easier? It just seems so tedious and time consuming to get it filled and on. By the time I'm ready Brenden is a frantic mess. Any hints or tips you have are greatly appreciated! The good news is, once we figured it out last night he did suck for quite a while. So, that tells me that if there's milk he will suckle. The only other problem is he won't latch without the nipple shield, so we're juggling both the SNS and the shield. I finally figured out to put the sns tube UNDER the shield so it stays in place. Seems to work, but it's difficult getting it going.

i used a sns with ds for about 3 weeks because i was trying to re-produce milk on one side again after having to stop nursing on that side. oh yes...getting the thing attached and full...ds was squirming and screaming by the time i got it all together usually. i don't know if you're trying to tape it, but i found that it was much easier to just get him latched and then just poke the little tube into the side of his mouth and slide it in. i would squeeze the bottle some to get it to squirt in his mouth...and then instant calm. then getting the thing rinsed out and clean in ample time is a pain too. good luck, mama!

forgot to say...i was using sns to continue to stimulate breast while feeding him breastmilk, but the change that also happened was that he went from nursing for 45 min per feeding to 15-20 minutes per feeding, so i think 3 weeks of the sns helped strengthen his suck...not sure though. can't imagine doing that with the nipple shield...hope you can get rid of that soon!
