That's odd my PED said the exact opposite. lol She said it digests so much quicker in the baby that babies that are on it are usually hungier faster so they weigh more. (We found this to be true for us.) I do know of some babies that refused to drink much of it though because of the taste, so maybe that's why some would lose weight? Oh well, just throwing my 2 cents in. : )

What is "normal" after 6 months? Is he on solids?

I am curious because my ds is nearly 3 and he still has runny to pudding-like poop.

I don't know what I'd do in your situation. Maybe there's something else besides the dairy that is a factor - eggs, soy, tomatoes, wheat.

Hope you find a solution. There ARE tests that can be run on him to tell you about allergies. Just ask your ped for a referral to a pediatric allergist.

Oh yeah, and make sure you are taking acidophilus. It could be a bacteria imbalance and getting the acid. from your milk could really help. It won't hurt in any case.

I didn't vote because I do not think it is something as easy as that.
trying cutting out wheat/gluten/corn. All high proteins. Since dairy and soy have already helped I would tend to think it is the protein that your baby is having trouble breaking down.
This is what happened to my youngest. Took 8mths to figure out but it was the breastmilk from a friend in the end that was our miracle. Breastmilk is a miracle and if your baby truely has allergies, formula is only going to make it worse. Formual can cause leaky gut because it leaks through the intestines (thus called leaky gut), breastmilk actually coats the lining of the intestines and heals.

When I finally figured the corn allergy and relized that all formula even nutramigen has corn, a friend started pumping breastmilk, she did a strict diet, and I gave her nothing but breastmilk for a couple of days and it actually healed her tummy and then we cut out all foods that she couldn't have.

Good luck,
Christine

Have you considered the elimination diet? It can be challenging but you will be able to see what is bothering him. Both of my kids have food allergies so I feel for you. It is so much better when the food is eliminated and they are normal, healthy children again. It's amazing what food can do when your body rejects it. Lots of luck!

If you want to stick with BFing, try an elimination diet. Hope it goes well
