Can you use Lanolin if you have thrush?

I am really sore all over again, and started doing gentian violet for both Lucas and I.... but my nipples are soo cracked and sore.

Can I use lansinoh after putting the GV on, and allowing it to dry?

TIA~ Jodi

I dont' know anything about GV but I know if you put lanolin on it, it will seal in any moisture and that will make the thrush worse. HTH.
I hope you feel better soon !!

Lanolin can make thrush very very bad. Ask me how I know....

At the gift shop in my hospital, they had these things called Soothies...they were gel-like inserts that you could put in your bra. Kind of expensive considering that if you have thrush you should really use one for a day or so only and then toss it and I think they were 2 for $16 or something like that. I only had one excruciating nipple though so 2 packs of 2 got me through the worst part of it.... you put them in the fridge and they are oh-so-soothing and they promote healing somehow. My LC said you can get them at some pharmacies, but I just went right to the gift shop since it was close by.

Wish you luck, mama, thrush sucks!

No,it can make it worse. I did that for a long time before I new it was thrush! GV made it so cracked and dry that it was unbearable to nurse. What worked the best for me is Grapefruit Seed Extract 250mg. capsules 3x a day.http://www.totaldiscountvitamins.com/Default.asp I am still taking them after months and if I stop it comes right back. I think ds is a carrier and I just may need to take them until he weans. As for soothing the pain,I use Plain Yogurt on there for about a hour with a disposable nursing pad. Feels soooo good, lol! Good luck mama!

Elizabeth, I had thrush literally for 8 months and the GSE worked for me too. I thought I'd have to take it until Rebecca weaned, but somehow it cleared up when she turned 1. I don't know why, since I wasn't doing anything differently, but it hasn't been back. Knock on wood! I don't know if it has anything to do with that being the time when she started sleeping better through the night, so my nipples actually had a chance to dry out for several hours or if that was just a coincidence.

Just wanted to let you know there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and you may not have to do GSE forever! LOL

does this mean you have somehow figured out a way to keep nursing? i'm almost scared to ask because i have seen first hand how heartbreaking it is when a truly contraindicated med comes into the picture.
