newborn w/ powerful suck, bleeding nipples, help?

So, I am an aunt again My bro and sil just had a little baby boy Saturday morning. Anyhow, he eats like my middle one did (which is to say, he doesn't stop very often) and has quite the vacuum happening. She asked me for help, and I told her it would probably ease up once her milk fully came in and he was more satisfied at each feeding, told her not to use soap on her nipples to keep the oils there, and told her to use lansinoh since she can use it all she wants and not have to rinse it off. Is there anything else I can tell her? It seems like I vaguely remember doing something else when I had the same situation with Thing #2, but I don't remember what I did.

Thanks!
Jessie

Everything you told her sounds right on to me! Tell her to be patient, I know it hurts, but it will go away once the milk comes in and her nipples are used to the wear and tear!

Soaking in warm tub helps too. Give her lots of encouragement to make it over this rough spot and to not give up. Onec she gets passed this it will be super easy.

I had the same situation with all 3 of my nursed babies. Even though I was only off of nursing 6 months, I STILL went through hell getting through the first week with my last baby. There's not much more she can do but grit her teeth through this time and it DOES get better. The big thing is to be sure that baby is latching on properly since many times that is a factor but for me it was just small nipples, large areola and very sucky babies. Tell her it DOESN'T last much more than a week or a week and a half before she'll be toughened up enough to begin to enjoy it.
