Anyones dh think extended breastfeeding is yucky?

Anyones dh think EB is yucky?
Not an issue yet, dd is only 5mths old, but I say she will wean when she's ready and if it at 4yrs old so be it! He says nursing a baby that can ask to nurse is gross. How do I live with this? Anyone been thru it and won the battle with dh?! I try to make him see my side and that I am not a freak, but he is so stubborn!

I wish I had words of advice. Just hold to your guns and do what feels right. My dh didn't know he was pro EB but now he realizes it is what is best. He sees how happy it makes his sweet baby girl.
Why cut them off as soon as they learn to ask for it? It's like punishing a child for learning how to express what they need. But I know what you mean, my family used to say that too.
Hopefully when the time comes he will see that natural weaning makes sense.
Best of luck!!!!

He doesn't think it's yucky, but unfortunately seems to think that it "spoils" her. <sigh> However, I made it clear that the weaning decision was between the nursling and the mom, not a unilateral decision to be made by the husband/dad.

Perhaps as time goes on your dh will come around and recognize how wonderful the nursing relationship is, esp. during the toddler years.

My Dh thinks i should be weaning my dd. She turned two in June! I however will not! I weaned all my others by the time they were 2 1/2. I will let this one, being my last, wean herself!

I think guys start to feel like 'enough already'

Even my totally enlightened dh asks if I am thinking of weaning our 2 yr old (he asks occasionally even though I have told him it will happen who knows when?!)

I think he is not grossed out by the idea of a big kid nursing but figures I want my boobies back to myself and he can not understand why I am continuing even though it still 'ties me down' to not being separated from our little guy.

I often mention how I want to go away for a trip without the kids and figure he is considering this when he brings it up

LOL

(I know I will take my trip whenever the oppurtunity develops and DS and I someday stop our nursing relationship!)

My Dh started to say little hints here and there for a few months now. My others didn't wean till they were 2 1/2 so this is not any different then the rest. But then the others never wanted to nurse as much as she does.

As for trips i spent 2 nights away from her in May and she did great! We resumed nursing as soon as I returned with no problem at all.

Ever since ds turned 2 dh has been saying he's getting too old - I tell him "we're working on it".

I nightweaned ds at about 2 1/2. It was hard to do with no help from dh (he needs his sleep at night).

Now that ds is three he mostly just nurses in the morning and before bedtime. So nobody outside of our family really needs to know about it.
