ISO a good chapter book for bedtime

I would like to read the boys a chapter book before bedtime. I think Marcus can follow a simply written one. My dad used to read us the Chronicles of Narnia, Little House, and Twain books. I have such fond memories of them. Does anyone have any suggestions of a book that would be good for a 4 yr old?

We read dd who's 5 1/2 and ds who's 3 1/2 Charlie and the chocolate factory. They thought it was really cool. They have always sat good for books so I don't know if it's just them or not! Tina

James and the Giant Peach is a fun one..

We did a series of Shel Silverstein books one summer,,,it is poetry but fun FUN poetry,,,,"Where the Sidewalk Ends", A Light in the Attic,,,,so on.

We have a Bible story book that is working great for us right now...

But we read "There is a Monster at the end of this book" before and after whatever we read..because the Toddler just can't get enough of that one,,,LOL!

We just finished reading Freckle Juice. It was cool because we talked a bit about being okay with who we are and how we look type of thing. Wasn't planning on it but ya gotta love those teachable moments, lol.

At that age my son's favorite was My Father's Dragon.
It is a series of 3 chapter books.
I think the second is Elmer and The Dragon and the third is
The Dragons of Blueland .

We are reading Charlotte's Web and we just finished Captain Underpants (which is not particularly educational or "gentle" but it was hilarious.) My dd is 4 and she is loving chapter books right now.

We have been reading the Harry Potter books since Beth was 4 and Sam was just born. They love them. Little house books, Black Beauty, Land of the Unicorns (I think that is the title), Malu's Wolf.

James and the Giant Peach scared my girls.
