new here

So - I'm new here! I'm going to start working outside of the home one day a week for a few hours. John will be in preschool in the mornings, but he'll have to go to my sisters for about 2 hours after.

Here's more about the job:
Should I take this job?

It's very weird for me to think about working. I think part of it is that I'm not certain it's the right decision. Part is that I think I'll lose some of the stupid AP points. In truth, I think John will be totally fine with it. (Emma will be in school.)

Anyway - just joining up!

Welcome!

What makes you think it's the wrong decision? what are the concerns?

How can we be there and help.

Sounds like a great job. The flexibility sounds wonderful.

I think my only concern is that I feel selfish doing something like this. We don't NEED the money (but extra is nice!), so I can't justify it as something my family depends on me for. Mostly, it's for me. And with a two year old, that seems selfish. Or maybe I've just been taught that it's selfish, but it's not true?

Nancy...not selfish, don't beat yourself up, your crunchy points are in tact (but the donuts John has for breakfast sometimes are definitely knocking some off) you are doing a great thing and I am proud to be your friend!!!

You are talking 5 hours/week.

Is a mom selfish or lose AP points for speding 5 hours/week volunteering?

If you feel bad about earning money you don't need, donate it and consider the work your form of community service. Or consider it education.

Or try it for six weeks and see how it feels.

Thanks, Annette! And he totally didn't have donuts for breakfast. The brownies he had contained organic eggs!

But what are you doing here? Are you going to work outside the home?

I saw Kevin and your kids at the museum today. It was crazy crowded!

Thanks! You are so cool!

You know, I'd NEVER say another mom was selfish about taking a job like this. I'd encourage her to do it. But I guess we treat ourselves differently, huh?

I'm going to use your six week suggestion. That should take me to about the beginning of May (after I start in late March). I'll evaluate and decide after that.

I don't know how anyone could consider this selfish on your part! It's only a VERY minimal time away from John, and he'll be safe with yoru sister. It sounds like an awesome opportunity and I'd do it if I could!

Oh, well since they were organic eggs...I deem your crunchy points in tact!!!

No, as you know, after our conversation yesterday, I am not going to work out of the home. I just check posts using New Posts and don't always look to see what forum they are in!
